Cuts - Butler, Sweeting, Reddick and Rufus

Oh well, I had high hopes for both of those guys

Rufus didn't show up at all. Disappointing because he seems to have a lot of potential. Maybe another year on the PS would do him some good, assuming he hasn't been passed up by somebody else (somebody like Uko for instance).

The correct 6th round pick for us in 2013 was the very next pick after Rufus (Western Kentucky ILF Jackson). Would be nice to have a run-stopping ILB but we threw it away on a "Who?" last year then again this year on OT Rook. Shoulda taken best LB available in 6th this year, too.

I had such high expectations for Butler............he was already the starter in my mind.

Edibali is practicing with the 1st team today. I think they're taking a long hard look at him.

Edebali doesn't have prototypical speed or strength, but has the desire and determination, as well as prototypical size.

He will make the PS, or could possibly sneak onto the 53.

Reddick and Sweeting both were waived, are they eligible for PS?

Dude...that play at the end of the Colts game where he, Edibali, tracked down the Colts' QB before he could get out of bounds was freaking impressive...

That was Rickey Jackson/Pat Swilling/Lawrence Taylor- son, y'all gotta do better than this rush speed...

Just hope he's not another Martez where the physical measurables are WOW and the mental part is DUD...

yes, if not claimed elsewhere.

I take these cuts as really good signs that SP/Ryan/Mickey like what they have and are done playing the marginal player with maybe some potential game.

In previous years no, but you're right, the new PS rules allow them to now be on the PS

Here's a list of PS eligibility because of the new rules...

A look at Saints players with practice squad eligibility | Black and Gold

The NFL announced some changes to practice squads in 2014 and 2015, which increases the maximum number of players from eight to 10, and also expands the eligibility for players who have earned no more than two accrued seasons.

Previously, players who earned one or more accrued seasons were not allowed to be placed on practice squads unless the player spent fewer than nine games on the active roster in their accrued seasons.

Under the new rules, the two additional players on each practice squad can have up to 32 games on an active roster over their first two seasons. What this means is that any 2012 or 2013 rookie can now fill the final two practice squad spots.

The other eight players remain under the old rules.

For the Saints, who have a young roster, this means there are now several candidates who could fill out the practice squad.

The following is a list of players who have practice squad eligibility by one means or another (assuming our understanding of the new rules are correct). However, it should be noted some combinations of the following names would not work due to the differing sets of rules.

S Pierre Warren
T Terron Armstead
C Matt Armstrong
S Marcus Ball
CB Derrius Brooks
WR Brandon Coleman
WR Brandin Cooks
LB Todd Davis
K Derek Dimke
CB Brian Dixon

Reddick showed promice last year. I guess he was maxed out. Rufus is a tweener who should just try to find a spot as a 4-3 rush end somewhere.
