this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Champ Bailey is gone, w resigned Graham instead of paying for an upscale kicker any options for covering our cap space?...

Re: what are we going to do with the cap space?
I would think the only plan is for holding enough cap cash to pay for the players who have to be put on IR this year.Saints need the cap space to pay for the players who will have to be signed to replace them. Some will be replaced by practice squad type players but some will be vets who will have to be paid the vet minimum amount.

Re: what are we going to do with the cap space?
You don't want to start a season flush with the cap for a few reasons.
1. If you get a key injury you have nothing to get a replacement with. E.G. Parys Haralson signing 2. Unused cap space carries over to the next year where we might need it for say ummm... A Cam Jordan contract. 3. Unknown to most but if Sean Payton decides to take the entire team out for a steak dinner, that is considered compensation and does count against a teams cap. Very small example but everything does count. Remember bountygate? Cap Violation. A lot of people look at cap space the same way they loon at space on a Credit Card.. room to play. But it isn't, and maxed is never good. |

Re: what are we going to do with the cap space?
Roll it over into next year is my guess. Assuming we don't have to sign an emergency replacement in mid-season.
It is hilarious that we have $3 million under the cap after all the whining and moaning in the offseason about it. I trust nobody will ever doubt Loomis again. |

Probably helped get Gallets contract done. Hopefully they have more and can get Jordon done too. Be nice to have them both sewed up before the offseason.
