Open letter to Arnold Fielkow
Mr. Fielkow,
I came across the news today that the city of San Antonio was attempting to poach the Oakland Raiders, and in conjunction with the 9 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina it brought back a flood of memories. I felt obligated to write you and tell you that I have not forgotten what you did to bring the Saints back to New Orleans. To do the morally right and ethical thing at that time when you were facing such pressure, ultimately making a huge sacrifice, is frankly inspiring to me in many facets. The whole city of New Orleans is forever indebted to you and you will never get the credit you deserve. The past 9 years have been incredible being a Saints fan, as you know, and the two thankless heroes in you and Paul Tagliabue don’t get to reap the benefits of your moral stance. That saddens me, but I find solace in knowing you can sleep at night! I get to share these experiences with my 4 year old son who is now a diehard Saints fan and those are things that would have never happened without you. I’m well read and versed on what went on behind the curtain around that time, and I’m sure I still don’t know the half of it. Katrina is a time in my life that brings back so many painful memories, and I could never imagine associating the Saints making a permanent move to San Antonio along with it. Thank you for what you did, I will never forget it, and I hope you know there are many of us that will forever be grateful to Arnold Fielkow. Consider me a fan for life. Thank him and thank God who directed him. What would NOLA be without our Saints?
