Two years ago, Roger Goodell told the Saints that ignorance was not a suitable defense in the Bountygate scandal. In the wake of the second Ray Rice video, the NFL commissioner is using that same defense. His credibility is slipping away.

Re: Bounty Gate vs Ray Rice situation
Goodell’s tough-guy stance was, If you didn’t know exactly what was going on in your program, that’s no excuse. You should have known. Case closed. Punishment dispensed.
Right back at you, Roger. The reality is: You should have known what was on that second tape. You should never have ruled on the Rice case to begin with until you did. You should have not rested until you found out exactly what happened in that elevator. In the case of Rice, where was that same motivation and dogged determination to get to the bottom of things that Goodell displayed during the Saints investigation? |

I don't think anyone takes him seriously anymore.
He's like that boss that everybody laughs at behind his back but you have to put up with him because he's still the boss. |

If the Owners, the one's who pay his check don't fire him, does that make them all accessories after the fact?

Re: Bounty Gate vs Ray Rice situation
Yeah. Everybody with a brain knows Goodell is unethical, arbitrary, dishonest, and bad for the sport -- even long before Harvey Levin got a hold of him, any John Q. Public person who follows sports news stories with any regularity, could see it happening with Goodell, time and again. Total bumbling and lack of integrity.
But we have to remember this guy is entrenched with the owners, he is bringing in billions of dollars, record profits, he is their Golden Boy. And although his pants are in flames and his nose is three feet long, I don't really see anything here that could make him step down. Until this affects the BRAND, and the bottom line, and the sponsors, and the profits, the owners will ride it out and do nothing. I'd love to be wrong, but I don't see anything serious happening to Goodell here, unless the owners thought they had a *better* candidate to step in and run the league, lined up & waiting in the wings. Which since they just gave him an extension, I don't know if they've ever even considered it, who would be next, or even interim if he stepped down. It is pretty exhausting and time consuming to have to search for a Commish. Integrity or honesty has nothing to do with it. If they had a better candidate lined up waiting in the wings, who they thought could do a better job of managing their league's profits, then I bet you Goodell would be gone at the first hiccup of a minor scandal, and that new person would be put in charge. |

Re: Bounty Gate vs Ray Rice situation
I hope Tom or one of the Bensons, starts asking questions publicly. Things like..."after investigating bounties in the Saints organization, you claimed you had thousands of pages of evidence, you produced only 18 and a Federal Judge mocked your investigation. Now we find out your investigative skills are so poor that you didn't even think to look at the elevator tape before passing judgement and sentencing Ray Rice for what he did on the elevator"
