New Orleans Saints' defense lacks fundamentals, offense struggles early vs. Browns' pressure: Film Study
Just like the rash of penalties the Saints were having in the pre-season, the Saints play a complete game and the first 2 games will be a bad memory!
In the NFL, most games are decided by a handful of plays. The New Orleans Saints, through two games, have been plagued by the inability to finish drives and defend in two-minute situations, plus they've made crucial mistakes at the worst times. The Saints' corners have not done a good job of getting a jam on receivers off the line of scrimmage, which is essential for being a good zone team or good press-man team in blitz pressure.
getting a jam? did i miss some thing here? i would say maybe just maybe i have seen the saints in press coverage 10% or at the most 15% of the time. the rest of the time the cushion is so big they might as well grab a hot dog and a beer from the concession stands but with no pass rush from the front 4 this is kinda of a mute point. you can only cover for so long if the QB has all day to through and the DL does not maintain their pass rush lanes. Blitzing works as a surprise not as a way to get a pass rush, besides we all no when the blitz coming. so there goes the surprise element out the window. It is the lack of executing the fundamentals and maintaining discipline that is really hurting us up front. That and lack of PRIDE. talk the talk? read it every week for months now. nothing but lip service but can you walk the walk? nope |
