It sounds to me like SP went to Ryan and said something like "Hey you remember how the defensive scheme was last year? Yeah, that was good. So why are you changing it?"

Well after the Browns game Payton did say (I'm almost quoting verbatim but too lazy to look it up) "I'm not usually in the room with those defensive meetings, I'm usually over with the offense" and I'm almost certain that changed and he said he would specifically go over the defensive film with Ryan, and he is spending more time now during the week with the defense. So we don't know exactly but I kinda think that DID sorta happen, after that outburst on the sidelines against the Browns.

I understand turnovers are important but playing solid defense is first and foremost. Turnovers will come when our defense feels comfortable enough to execute without hesitation. Sometimes you just have to let the players play.
