Prater has a big leg, no doubt but I don't know if he can kick 60 yarders with any kind of regularity down at sea level.

He actually missed one FG and it was at home against KC on SNF, however he did make a 54 yarder in that same game as well.

We may not need many 50-60 yards at home anyway. On the road he could be what we need and it will put less pressure on Drew to have to score all the time or get to the 20 yard line. If we can kick far, it helps our offense at least work to get to the 40 yard line at least. It's points and that is what we need.

Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater is set to be suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season after violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, Prater violated the policy due to an alcohol-related offense. He had been in the league’s alcohol program since being charged with a DUI in 2011.

“I’ve made some mistakes,” Prater said. “I’m accepting full responsibility. I’ll learn from it and come back a better person. I want to apologize to my teammates, my coaches, the Broncos’ organization and the fans.”

Prater is not expected to appeal the suspension.

He has been in the league's alcohol program for 3 years? And, he is in violation this year again. Hmmmm.....sounds like a dicey business decision to me.

Broncos fans are much more upset than happy that he is gone. This move is also about cap dollars. That being said, if he can come down on his salary requirements and control the after work drinking, he could be an upgrade.

never understood the issue with drinking myself when you make this much money and play in new orleans. the cab and limo companies would be happy to take care of the players and keep them out of trouble. priority passengers still i think. so new orleans would be perfect.

Yeah you would think that we would've by now. Idk about you but having the Saints offense only needing to make it to the 40 yard line to score points is quite scary.

I don't think anyone said he is the reason we are 1-3 but he's definitely a weak link and Prater would (likely) be a huge upgrade.

My only concern is signing a kicker with alcohol problems in New Orleans.

Then again, his contract can always be written to protect us from him slipping. And there's tons of AA groups in New Orleans to lend their support.

That is wishful thinking, Danno.

I'm not saying I know anything about this guy or his substance abuse problems mind you. But, having problems twice doesn't sound like bad luck to me.

But, honestly, I don't care if they have to roll the guy onto the field in a wheel barrow -- if he could stand up and kick it through the goal posts 85-90% of the time.

So, whatever, I'm in.
