Vick's Merry Christmas
The Atlanta Falcons offered their star quarterback the ultimate show of respect with a 10-year contract.
Vick's contract surpasses the deal Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning signed in March. http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/ATL/8030762  The Atlanta Falcons have just made a sporadic, injury-prone QB the highest paid player in NFL history, not to mention signing him up for the next ten years. I was a little shocked by the Peyton Manning contract, but this is completely baffling. With a QB rating of 76.6, Vick is currently 26th in the league, placing him firmly behind legends such as Brian Griese, Billy Volek, Kerry Collins, and yes ... Aaron Brooks. Vick's Merry Christmas
Yeah, I\'ll give him his props for being a spectacular athlete, but he is NOT worth more than Peyton Manning - here or in any other alternate reality.
I\'m a little disturbed by what seems to be a developing trend - that is, QB\'s pulling down such big money. I think the teams who are signing QB\'s to such phenomenal contracts are gonna end up regretting it when the salary cap bites them. They\'re simply not gonna have the money left over to get (or keep) quality talent at other positions. How good is a QB who has noone to throw to, or an O-line to block for him while he tries to do so? Unless your name\'s Dan Marino, the results are usually pretty disappointing. |

Vick's Merry Christmas
I agree that this deal will come back to bite them when they can\'t put together a winning team because of salary cap restrictions.
But for the immediate future - say the next two years - Vick makes the difference in Atlanta. If he went elsewhere the Falcons would fall quickly from contender status to also rans. Plus you can talk all about how tired you are that the media is kissing his behind and how overrated he is - he will get your team that media attention. The Falcons will play on Monday Night next season, do you think the Saints will? Maybe this deal makes sense business-wise. Any info how the deal is structured? |
