'76, gotta disagree, brother...

Position coaches are directly responsible for developing, mentoring, coaching players - at the least the good teams do...

Look at the quarterback position, Holmgren turned average talents into Hall of Fame guys (Montana, Young)...

Given you're absolutely right, and I've banged the drum as much on the draft/prospect threads, we've not committed a 1,2 or 3 round pick on a linebacker; but damn, not one significant developed linebacker in Vitt's tenure...

If it's not his job, he's in the wrong vocation...

What about Hawthorne, he was borderline Pro Bowl player in Seattle. Here, pffttt, bad FA pickup.

On the other hand Parys Haralson is the 4th rated 4-3 OL by PFF this year. Saints got him for a 7th round pick.

Graham injury worse than thought?

Saints add TE Tom Crabtree, put S Jairus Byrd on injured reserve

With injuries a potential concern at tight end, the Saints added to their ranks at the position on Tuesday, signing Tom Crabtree, according to the NFL’s transactions.

The 28-year-old Crabtree played in seven games for Tampa Bay in 2013, catching four passes for 21 yards and a touchdown. This followed a three-season stint with Green Bay (2010-2012). Overall, Crabtree has caught 22 passes for 323 yards and five TDs in 53 regular season contests.

The Saints’ top tight end, Jimmy Graham, suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday’s win vs. Tampa Bay, but the injury is regarded as minor. What’s more, the Saints have their bye in Week Six, giving Graham extra time to heal before New Orleans returns to action on October 19 at Detroit.

However, even if Graham doesn’t miss any games, the Saints might want to manage his practice reps. The same could go for backup tight end Benjamin Watson, who has been dealing with a groin injury since Week Four. Crabtree’s addition gives the Saints four tight ends, with second-year pro Josh Hill another reserve option.

Crabtree takes the roster spot that belonged to free safety Jairus Byrd, who was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. Byrd suffered a torn lateral meniscus last week.

"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

Also, everybody's favorite current man crush, Josh Hill. Hill plays special teams. With Graham out, Hill on offense, need somebody to fill in on special teams and in practice etc. Can't risk an injury to Hill or Watson getting dinged up, even if Graham is only out for a short time.

Re: The Saints have waived Khairi Fortt

last 5 years only 28 total draft picks one of the lowest if not the lowest of all teams in the nfl.126th pick a total waste pick when you have so few there has to be fewer mistakes.Only thing has saved Saints is the good job done on rookie ufda players which makes me think the people in charge let the scouts do the ufda players an there is to much risk taking of players picked with injury or personal head case historys by saints top managment boys which have rolled snake eyes several times. Now if the saints would trade down pick up more picks then you would have more space for screw ups.this has to change starting next year trade down theres more stastical saftey with more picks esp,. if you wish to take risky picks.
