I do admit that the money side of the NFL is a bit out of my lane. I don't understand a bunch of the cap things, which I should really study myself up to have a coherent conversation about it.

But if you say so, then NO WAY...we can't afford a cap hit like that one.

The way it works is if a team cuts or trades a player, all guaranteed money, signing bonus etc accelerates to the year of the deal. You can spread it over 2 seasons if its after June 1st.

The league wouldn't even allow it since it would put us 16 million over the cap this year.

Drew Brees for JJ Watt. Similar salaries I think. JJ and Cam at DE giving us the best DL in the NFL. The Texans need a QB. We roll with Luke McCown. Play D and run the ball. I'm down.

Trading Drew can't happen, it would cost us 22 million against the cap

The Texans can't trade JJ, it would cost them 36 million against their cap.

Player trades mean all dead money counts immediately against the cap.

Its impossible to trade Brees, Watt or any player with a huge contract unless he's in his last year and the dead money is low.

Trade for CJ Spiller and get our "Darren Sproles" like figure back in our back field. Then Trade KR for a 3rd or 4th round pick to whomever. Bye Bye Cadet.
