Is our front office as good as we think?

The issue with Fortt is getting odd... Saying he was healthy since week 1 and was doing crossfit during his time on IR. This guy is going to be a good player for the Bengals, and yet again we lose talent on our team for some odd reason. Loomis sure is good with a check book but his talent acquisition is getting more questionable as time goes on.

Next question.

He missed two meetings that was the reason for his release

Fortt, a 22-year-old who skipped his senior season at Cal to enter the NFL draft, had missed some team meetings, according a source.

He'll start when we play the Bengals and have the game of his life

It always happens with ex saints players.

wouldn't doubt it but my question is why put him on short term IR if he was healthy in the first place?

Head scratcher.

Re: Is our front office as good as we think?

I don't understand the thrust of the article. Short-term IR is supposed to be used for players that were bound to make the roster but got injured. That's exactly what happened to Fortt.

I don't see what exactly is "bizarre" about it, except for the fact he missed team meetings and is claiming that he has a sleep disorder. He probably would've been activated by now otherwise, instead of getting cut.

Re: Is our front office as good as we think?

I read in another article that Sean Payton said "No Comment' when asked about Fortt. I think this one is a head scratcher because we really don't know whether he will be productive at Cincinnati or not.

Sean Payton's no comment is a dead giveaway for "something happened and we're not going to discuss it with you or anyone for the sake of the reputation of the kid." He may end up starting for the Bengals or somewhere. May also come out he some other problem that could trip him up later. Regardless, the Saints didn't feel it worth their time to babysit him and probably felt another team could give him a fresh chance and he could, maybe, succeed or grow up there.

I think it says our front office are a bunch of good-natured people who want to see the kid have a second chance somewhere else without saying something about him that shouldn't be said because the kid could overcome it. Finally, the ONLY reason this is a mystery is because it's the bye week and there is hardly any Saints news whatsoever.

I agree. He pissed someone off. Notice Fortt isn't saying anything negative about the Saints. He messed up. The FO made him accountable by cutting him. And I'm quite sure it didn't just happen once.

Re: Is our front office as good as we think?

The oddest part of this story is someone claimed a LB that we waived.

Edit to add some more notes. I think we do have one of the top FO in the biz. We have had sustaining power for quite a few seasons. I do wish we could use the draft abit better and land a few draft studs that we haven't seemed to be able to do very much. Figuring out a way around mainly drafting late isn't an easy thing to do. We hit the Free Agency market pretty hard and it didn't payoff this year and we let some good players go and didn't get much/anything which sucks. But overall I do think we have a top FO team.

I heard he missed 2 meetings, but was late for several others.

Can't blame the coaches for it.

Yeah, I read that somewhere too, and that he says he has some kind of sleep disorder.

If true, and if affects his timeliness how on earth did this not get communicated to the coaches? Nah. We may never know, but this doesn't hold water for me...

Loomis is good with the checkbook, but allows SP to handle all personnel decisions. If you are going to blame someone, blame Payton.

Two sides to every story, but this story will play out in Cincinnati. We have seen a lot of talent come and go but something red flagged this guy.

I thought potential players who are bollocksed most of the time would fit right in, in NOLA. I recall the discussion about a kicker that was recently available?

Maybe Payton did the team a favor. Maybe he did the kid a favor. Regardless the last thing I'll be worried about is how well he plays at Cincinnati.

Re: Is our front office as good as we think?

I think our front office is spectacular at most things. Drafting we're hit or miss. Mainly hit on offense, and mainly miss on defense. We don't acquire draft picks to provide quality depth so we can keep good drafted players instead of keeping on to players way too long who "may" pan out after 3 years of devlopment only to cut them later. We're awful at drafting defensive talent or devloping defensive talent. Other than that we're good. Loomis is a magician with the cap space.

Re: Is our front office as good as we think?

Look we still have a 3 year window with Brees so the FO is going to take some chances on vet FA vs developing rookies. I would imagine in the next 2 years they will be more incline to build thru the draft and go thru a couple lean less successful years. Just hope all of you are ready for it.

I think Brees has a 3 year window, but in today's NFL teams don't really have a window thats either open or shut. It fluctuates yearly with free-agent acquisitions and the draft.

Loomis is a cap genius. But as a talent evaluator..........not so much.

dizzle88 10-13-2014 05:21 AM

Re: Is our front office as good as we think?

We've struck out on a few defensive picks over the years

Chip Vaughn and Stanley Arnoux - both from the vaunted wake forest defense
Sedrick Ellis - supposed to be the next warren sapp
Patrick Robinson - the "Reggie bush" of defensive backfields, big play or idiotic play

I'd even put Kenny Vaccaro and Cam Jordan here until they prove otherwise, both have been absolutely horrible so far this season

Re: Is our front office as good as we think?

We had three needs this past offseason: OL, CB, and LB. Our front office did nothing to solidify those positions.

I don't know how good we think they are, but as of late they have not been very good.

More hits than misses for sure. Not even close. As Cam would say, hindsight is 50/50. :)

Re: Is our front office as good as we think?

I believe this has been the worst off season for the Saints front office in recent memory . Only one new player is contributing, Cooks! All the rest are either off the team, on the bench or injured. Even Goodwin is struggling with injury. You know it's your year when your rookies are making waves, ours aren't.
