Saints, Sherril closer to dinner Shedding some light The New Orleans Saints' recent success means Sun Herald sportswriter Jim Mashek may soon have a moonlighting gig. As a waiter. Mashek agreed to serve dinner to one of three men - Saints coach Jim Haslett, former Saints coach Mike Ditka or former Mississippi State coach Jackie Sherrill - if the Saints closed the season with four consecutive victories and reached the NFL playoffs. An Internet poll gave Sherrill a resounding victory, with 46 percent of the vote. The Saints have won three straight since then, and close regular-season play at Carolina on Sunday. Mashek has agreed to wait on Sherrill at The Shed, a barbecue restaurant with an outdoor decor off Interstate 10 in Vancleave. In addition, The Shed has agreed to feed the entire Saints team if they can complete their improbable run to the playoffs. THE SUN HERALD |
