Saints will take division lead over next 3 weeks

1 Attachment(s)
The good news is that it's between us and Carolina. We're 1.5 games back. The Saints have the most complete team in the division and, aside from Byrd, are relatively healthy.

Seattle will beat Carolina next week. We're at home, and aside from the last 3 series yesterday, the Saints played well. It's an "if" for sure, but a win over GB with a Carolina loss puts us in a great spot heading to Carolina to take the lead.

Their O-line is beat up and a win over GB would help give us the confidence to beat Carolina. Carolina has serious potential to go 0-3 over the next 3 games.

It's time for us to get going, get hot, and get fully healthy for a November/December push. We ain't out of it by a long shot. 4 division games to go.

:bng:

Saints lose. Carolina wins. Bucs win. Falclowns lose.

How exactly does the tie that Carolina has, figure into things? It would suck if that somehow ends up screwing up the Saints. Does it count as half a win? If the Panthers go 9-6-1 and the Saints go 9-7, who wins the division there? I still haven't wrapped my head around all this yet.

Carolina wins the division in that scenario.

Not going to happen with Drew Favre ending games with back breaking picks and a defense that plays for 3 quarters and falls apart at the end.

They go by win %. A tie simply doesn't figure into the %

Saints finish 9-7, Carolina 9-6-1, Carolina wins it
Saints finish 9-7, Carolina 8-7-1, Saints win it

I know NO TEAM that we can beat decisively right now. We cannot CLOSE the DEAL.

It's half a win, half a loss. In the above scenario the panthers would have 6.5 losses and the Saints 7. Works in their favor.

Of course the opposite is true too. Saints are 9-7, panthers are 8-7-1, then they have 7.5 losses to our 7...

But the simplest thing is to beat them twice starting a week from Thursday.

YES! Always! No question!

here's my point of view. right now we're like 0-7 on the road, so even if we win the division (by default) we'll more than likely have to go on the road to play someone like, seattle, or greenbay. during that time of the season dealing with the outdoor elements i'm gonna be honest who dats, i dont want them to go to the playoffs just to get beat down or for them to lose like we did yesterday. maybe its the backlash of yesterday's loss but hey the way they lost yesterday is totatlly unacceptible. 2 td lead with 5 mins left and you lose. i know a lot of you all have this optimism but to be honest with yall i dont. i'm a fan as you can see by my bio. i'm gonna root for them till the fat lady sings, but that loss yesterday really really stings.
Doesn't matter how you get in. You have to be in the playoffs to have a chance. teams like the 7-9 Seahawks and the 9-7 Giants had success in the playoffs.

Look, I know there's no reason to believe that these Saints will be any better at the end of this season than they are now. With 6 games behind us, the team does reflect their record.

But the only shot at winning the lottery is to have a ticket. And no matter what, it's always better to be one of the 12 teams at the end of season with a ticket than one of the 20 that don't.

Definitely want them to go to the playoffs, no matter what kind of shape they're in. Need more banners up in the rafters of the Dome. Then you can point to them when you're sitting next to Falcons fans.

You take what comes your way. In some ways the entire season is a playoff. Last year we were 5-1 at the bye week and the mood was very depressing because it appeared we needed home field advantage in the playoffs, and at 5-1 it was hard chasing the Seahawks, 49ers and more - we were already 1 game behind the curve.

This year the NFC South is bad and there's actually hope at 2-4. It just is what it is. Whether we're mathematically in or out, I'll always be here rooting for the Saints!

I agree, you have to get into the post-season to even have a chance. Let's win the division and see what happens, could get everything working at the right time. If we get beat in the playoffs, at least we had a chance.

GB is hot. how hot? 25th rank offense that is now the 4 ranked scoring offense in the NFL. this will be a hard one

the key is to beat all teams in the division. on the road or at home. they all are must wins to pull this off.

9-6-1=9.5/16=.593 Win %
9-7= 9/16=.562 Win %

Higher Win percentage wins.

You get 1 point for a W. 0 points for a L. .5 points for a T

We missed our opportunity on Sunday when both the falcons & panthers lost. How did that not motivate this team to bust balls to beat the lions.

We played our best game of the year so in some way we did. We just aren't mentally tough to close out games. We played 55mts and thought we had it won it seems to me. Had to have been a long plane ride home.

I would have agreed with you before Detroit. However: 1) the D figured out how to play 3.5 quarters and 2) Drew was getting rid of the ball when it wasn't there for most of the game, 3) Colston remembered how to catch the ball.

Run blocking was sh*tty, but, we were playing the best D in the league so :bandg:

Listen, dude, you will be happy if we make it to the playoffs at 7-9. And, if we somehow manage to pull-off an unbelievable playoff performance and win it all in the Show -- you will crap your pants with joy.

So, please, STFU.

I say week 14 (Carolina) is when we pull 1.5 games ahead of Carolina for good.

With the way the Seahawks have been playing don't be surprised if the panthers beat them. Our game is tougher than Carolina's game.

I think Sherman will be able to hold off Benjamin and Thomas III will be able to keep tight coverage on Olsen.

With Drew Brees at the helm we have a chance to win on the road. He is in a slump but he can break out of that slump starting tomorrow night and we can play to our potential. We shouldn't be like other fans and start calling for coaching changes when we struggle. We will get back in it. WHO DAT!!!

Detroit looks like sh** vs Atlanta. Stupid play calling. No runs vs ATL terrible defense.

Atlanta led the game for 60 minutes, and lost!!!

Another NFC South team that doesn't know how to finish.
Mike Smith is just about done in Atlanta.

I'm thinking this is probably bad news for us, but I guess it really depends on who they hire.

Blank is a good owner. I'm worried he may actually hire a good coach.

Great day so far. ATL choked, CAR lost in hard fought game, Tampa lost in overtime. Thursday's game is more important than GB. Great chance tonight but it would't be end of the world if we lose.

To an extent, if we win tonight and Thursday we take a game lead in the division. If we lose tonight and win Thursday, we would still be behind them by a half game... (I think that's right)
