From another post, just to make it simple...
Lets examine their team vs Ours. They have Better D-line Better LB\'s Better DB\'s Better QB Better O-line (debateable) Better Coaches We have... Better Punter, barely. Better Kicker Better WR, Barely, Mushin is on fire. Its a wash on... RB (unless Deuce returns to early 2003 form, then its no contest) Can we win? YES Will we win? Not likely. If we don\'t get a gift TD (ST or TO)... Panthers 23 Saints 17 |

O.K.
New Orleans:24 Carolina:23...This matchup is a hard one to predict. Carolina has recently become best buddies with the endzone, and their defense is always a challenge to move the ball on. Saints...3 T.D.\'s and 1 field goal...Panthers...2 T.D.\'s and 3 field goal\'s. UNLESS Our defense is able to get to Delhomme early, and often, and create numerous turnovers. That could lower Carolina\'s score by half, and we could try to control the ball for the rest of the game. Pass rush...ball control...NO blown assignments or goof-off penalties...Strong running game...Improved pass protection...65 to 70% 3rd down conversion percentage...Man...Sounds like one big Christmas present...Go Saints!!! |

I hope I\'m wrong...
Panthers 31 Saints 24 Since posting here, this is the first time I\'ve ever picked us to lose. I was at the game earlier this month at the Dome, and it was awful - Carolina\'s defense creates alot of turnovers, and we give away alot of them. Aaron Brooks returns to rumblin\' fumblin\' stumblin\' SMILIN\' form, and the Kitties embarrass and disappoint us again. We\'ll tack on a few points at junk time, but the game won\'t be nearly as close as the final score. C\'Mon Saints ... let\'s see you prove me wrong!!! [Edited on 29/12/2004 by mutineer10] |

I don\'t think we can score more than 17 on this team. So I am hoping our D can slow them down to around 14 points to give us a chance.
I think the key to the game for us will be the TE play. If Boo et al. show up and block well, and more importantly CATCH crucial balls, we can beat this team. We need our TE\'s to step up and make that 3rd and 5 or 8 catch. Be an outlet for AB. To go over the middle and get between the zone and CATCH the damn ball when the blitz is coming quick on AB. I\'d also sometimes throw to Karney when the blitz comes, and have Deuce block. That will get Deuce more breathing room later in the game and make us more unpredictable. I think, not only our schemes and play calls can be predictable, but who we go to as well. If you have 2 go-to guys (Deuce, Horn) it is easier to defend than having 4-5 people. So it all depends on if we step up and take the bull by the horns. If the Saints play like they can, Saints win 31-17. If they play like they did early in the season with no heart, 38-10 loss. If they play like they have been the past few games (still crappy but at least scrappy, hungry and full of heart) I think they can keep it close and maybe even pull out a win, but I predict a 21-16 loss. I hope with all my heart I am wrong...but the Panthers are on full boil, and we are on simmer. |

whew i would be very careful of overconfidence especially playing Carolina,Look at what happened in Tampa Bay.
They\'re really playing good and scary if you think about the playoffs.I hope no wins but theyll have to play at their best potential but beware of jakey and co. |

I\'d definitely double Peppers, or throw a RB/TE to chip him 90% of the time. We definitely need to keep McKenzie on Mushin, with over the top help waiting. On offense, keep the game balanced w/ 60/40 run/pass, and use a lot of screens to keep the linebackers off balance.
PS- no one in this league can run stride for stride with Donte, he just needs to catch the ball. |
