Not to come off like a douche but this is what he should be doing (not saying he should win special teams awards every month) but I expect an NFL kicker to be this accurate under 50 yards. Now, he just needs to stay consistent. There was a reason after all why he was cut earlier in the offseason.

Because they needed the roster spot. They wanted to put Fortt on IR and had to wait until he became eligible.

I like Graham. #7 most accurate kicker in NFL history. That's hard to argue with.

Still doggin'...sorry. Don't trust this man...he makes big kicks that wins us two or three games, I won't dog on him as much.

So far he's:
10-10 from inside 40...should be a given for an NFL kicker
2-3 from 40-49 yards...kickers should be 75% and above from this distance, especially playing at least half your games in a dome.
1-1 from 50-59...no problem with this one.

His bank shots are also getting old...

I still cringe too. I think it is PHSD ( Post-Hartley Stress Disorder ).

He was also cut because Payton wasn't very impressed with the kicking in the pre-season. I think he was one of only 2 kickers to miss an extra point from the new test distance in the preseason.

Once again, the way he's kicking right now is what I would expect of any decent kicker in the NFL. If he starts hitting some 55+ yarders on a regular basis then I may change my tune. Until then, no real reason to celebrate.

Agree, unless it's inclement weather, anything inside the 45 should be made. Beyond that, I don't hold the kicker responsible for a loss. Anderson made those kicks and it got us nowhere. Graham has done a respectable job so far. They may not be beautiful kicks but all it has to do is go in. This isn't best in show.

Maybe no reason to celebrate. But the point is, people thought this was going to be a big issue and it's not been an issue at all.

And I sincerely doubt he was cut because Payton didn't want him. If that was the case, the Saints would've just signed another kicker instead of re-signing Graham 2 days later. There were plenty of good choices at the time.

Re: Shayne Graham - NFC Special Teams Player of the Month

Aside from hitting the inside of the post against Detroit from point-blank range a few weeks back, he's been great this past month. Plus, as a more recent NFL convert, he gave me my most enjoyable moment as a Saints fan: the field goal against Philly and our first ever road win in the playoffs.

I agree with the comments above though - I'm always apprehensive when he steps up to kick. I think it's his style that concerns me, but it's nothing if not reliable.
