Re: Gifs of Roman Harper Missing Tackles vs the Saints Last Night
I find they're are three types of opinion of Harper...
1) Good Saints fans that appreciated his effort and were willing to overlooked he often sucked balls when his assignment was anything other than blitzing a quarterback and was overpaid for that one ablity during his tenure... 2) Crimson-bleeding Homers that are incapable of admitting they're wrong about anything due to a dysfunctional personality and insecurity complex probably having something to do with compromised water sources and restricted gene pools... 3) Football fans that recognize Harper has less coordination and rhythm than a really white Canadian and probably wore cement shoes for cleats and couldn't last a day in a Geometry class because of his complete failure to grasp angles... But we're hey, we're All Saints Fans, no one fan loving his/her team more than the other, just in their own, special way... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: Gifs of Roman Harper Missing Tackles vs the Saints Last Night
We all knew Harper was not brought in for his coverage & ball skills. It was blatantly obvious with his body of work since being drafted by the Saints in the 2nd Rd in 2006 until he left after 2013. He was brought here in 2006 to because he's pretty darn good in run support.
In the NFC South in 2005, TB had a run-heavy offense. CAR had a run-heavy offense. ATL had a very run-heavy offense. See the trend? Roman Harper was brought here to help shut that down, not to be a lock-down coverage safety. We knew his limitations in the passing game, but we did have some DC's that tried to fit a round peg in a triangle hole with him. His best years were when DC's played to Harper's strengths by playing him up around the line and blitzing. His worst years were when DC's thought it was simply a brilliant idea to have Harper cover WRs, faster RBs & faster TE's deep...which was simply brilliantly stoopid. |

For such a nice guy and a pretty dang good talent he catches a lot of flack. Carolina hates him for hitting Steve Smith after the whistle the one time. Now most of you make fun of him. From all indications he was very well liked on this team which seems plausible based on Drew and him chatting after the game. I agree...pick on one of the many jerks in the league.

spkb...you're right. I misread it. My bad. Thought they placed the loss on Harper, so I misread that.
In fairness to Harper, I see plenty of Strong Safeties week-to-week miss tackles and get blown up in coverage just like the original link posted on here. Harper ain't the best, but he ain't the worst, either. |

Panthers fans and Who Dats both agree that man is terrible in coverage....Sometimes it hard to believe how many fans here thought he was worth keeping....we all have opinions but can someone PLEASE throw 3 consecutive seasons of positive stats in here because I really don't see where he was good besides Gregg's first year as DC

Re: Gifs of Roman Harper Missing Tackles vs the Saints Last Night
One of the hardest things to do is tackle a guy running straight at you in the open field. If that guy happens to be a good enough athlete to make it to the NFL he's not supposed to get tackled in that situation. Granted some guys are better at it than others but most are going to whiff as often as not.
