Four running backs worked out for the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

Mikel Leshoure, Andre Brown, Brian Leonard and Tim Hightower were in town to work out, Yates said.

Saints running backs Khiry Robinson (forearm) and Pierre Thomas (rib/shoulder) have missed the last three games due to injury, although Robinson is thought to be close to returning.

Reserve Edwin Baker, who was promoted from the practice squad in the wake of the injuries, suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss to the San Francisco 49ers, so the Saints might be looking for reinforcements in case he can't play.

Leshoure, who played at Illinois, was a second-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions in 2011. He started 14 games in 2012, but his career was marred by injuries and a suspension. He recently worked out for the Bears.


Brown, a North Carolina State product, has played six NFL seasons for five different teams. Brown was suspended at the start the year for failing a drug test, according to the NFL Network.

Hightower was recently playing for a team in the Fall Experimental Football League. The 28-year-old last played in the NFL for the Washington Redskins in 2011.

Leonard, 30, has seven years of NFL experience, most recently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013.

We have two backs who have been injured and we signed Edwin Baker for depth, he suffered a concussion and that is an unsure injury. He might or might not be ready to return this week.

If he doesn't then we are left with Cadet and Ingram with a bum shoulder...

Baker got hurt. We have yet to sign anyone which means PT or Robinson are probably going to be ready. We really need PT back for the 3rd downs.

Hightower looked good at times in Washington but suffers from injury issues if i remember correctly.

If we loose Ingram in the summer what would people opinion be on trading for somebody like Zac Stacy,he has struggled this year but so have all the Rams RBs.He showed great promise last year and still have a few years left on a cheap rookie deal

I think I would rather draft a RB if Ingram leaves. This year's class is absolutely stacked with RB talent.
