Lardarius Webb fined $16,537 for horse-collar tackle

Money well spent as far as the Ravens are concerned.

On the second play of Monday night’s Ravens win over the Saints, Baltimore cornerback Lardarius Webb saved a touchdown by dragging Saints wide receiver Joe Morgan down on the 2-yard-line with a horse-collar tackle.

The play was flagged as a personal foul and Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that Webb has been fined $16,537 by the NFL for the infraction. It’s a tidy sum of money, but well spent from the Ravens’ perspective.

The Ravens Defense was able to stop the Saints on four straight plays after Webb’s tackle stopped Morgan after a 67-yard run on an end around. The Ravens drove for a touchdown on the ensuing possession, putting them up seven points on the way to a 34-27 victory.

Wilson also reports that neither Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith nor Saints safety Kenny Vacarro were fined for an altercation that saw Vacarro penalized during the game. Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata also avoided a fine for a roughing the passer penalty.

Saw it live. That's a penalty IMO that could result in an ejection depending on the severity.

Side note - did anyone notice how Joe was caught from behind by Webb on two separate large yardard plays? C'mon Joe, turn on the after burners.

Or intent. Webb went directly to the horse collar to tackle Morgan and pulled him down from behind instead of grabbing to slow him down to wrap him up.

I am glad that Morgan wasn't hurt.

I still blame Payton for not calling a pass or two on the goal line.

"Intent" is a slippery slope. Just make it an ejection whether you start there or end there. That particular play could end someone's career.

Payton believed in his O line. They are the ones you should blame.

He and Ravens got away with it, real cheap.

In some other sports that is an ejection and also possibly a penalty score.

Can't blame Payton...

They're talking about it on the radio here...

Ingram made the wrong read, running lane selection...

Josh Hill had an excellent seal block and Roll Tide reverted to his old ways...

Recently, Ingram had some poor decisions in the running game and catching the football. I'd like to see more Thomas. Few more touches for Pierre won't hurt Ingram.
