The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers
1 Attachment(s)
The reports of the Saints' death have been highly exaggerated. Drew Brees earned a QB rating of 140 with 5 touchdowns and no turnovers to lead the New Orleans Saints in a dominating win over a very sloppy Pittsburgh Steelers team. The Saints didn’t throw to Jimmy Graham who was double teamed all game. That opened up the gate for Ben Watson, Marques Colston, Erik Loring and Nick Toon to each haul in Touchdowns for the Saints.
Although Ben Roethlisberger passed for 435 yards and two touchdowns, he also threw two interceptions for the Steelers against a bend but don’t break defense that played an imperfect but much improved game. Roethlisberger finished with a QB rating of 76. The final score was much closer than expected due to some questionable penalties and "garbage" yards and points. At 35-16 with 6 minutes left, the game was way out of hand. The Steelers closed to 35-24 at 2:37 left after a questionable illegal use of the hands call against Keenen Lewis on a pass which brought the Steelers to the Saints 8 yard line and eventual score. Steelers final score came with :04 seconds left and the onsides attempt failed - end of game. |
Re: The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers
I've complained about Toon for a long time, But I'll give credit where credit is due - He worked for his first professional TD, he earned every single yard of it, was a sweet score.
Kenny stills was the man today, big time numbers - 162 yards on 5 catches and a TD. Brees played well when goodwin wasn't letting people run free at him. Even though Goodwin did it for most of the game (please put lelito in!!!!) |
Re: The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers
JG was responsible for at least two sacks

Re: The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers
I don't get it, Lelito has shown himself better than the aging Goodwin, yet we refuse to play him. One thing I dislike with Sean Payton's team is, again, the player loyalty. Should be "you play to win the game" and "best player starts at each position" but sometimes we try to give the old starter the benefit of the doubt and SP gets blinded by that. Goodwin was weak link today and has been for some weeks.

Best news is we have Carolina at home next week and I feel we're going to take care of business.

Preseason I thought the BIG competition world beater games (not the most important, just best teams) would be - Ravens, Steelers and Green Bay. What's funny is we went 2-1 in those games and screwed the pooch against lesser teams on the downturn would should have destroyed. Very Sean Payton-esque. |

The Good:
Offense was great. Ingram and Brees were on a good one today, and how about Stills!! wow. The Bad: Colston dropping everything thrown at him. Can someone please teach PRob how to catch. Goodwin is just as bad as DLP, maybe even worse, how he is starting boggles my mind. The ugly: The defense was awful. We got lucky Big Ben was hurt for a good portion of the game. Zero pass rush or pressure all game long. Multiple stupid penalties by Vaccaro. Defense again was just awful, and unfortunately they probably think they played well. It took a perfect game from Brees to win this one. |

This year is not how any of us expected it to be, the team has a lot of faults but we won Any win is good enough for me in a year like this. |

Re: The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers
Not only double teamed. There were some great 1 on 1 plays from their DBs and LBs.

Re: The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers
How is winning by 3 a dominating win?

They scored 16 meaningless garbage points, and 200 yards of offense late when we dropped into a prevent. |
Re: The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers

Re: The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers
Next to GB today was our best game of the year, I thought
|
Re: The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers
As far as I am concerned the Saints proved, even with a ball-gargling defense and a pop-gun offense, that they can hang with the big boys.
I am going to be extremely disappointed if the Saints don't hang at least a 40 burger on the kittens next week in the Superdome!!! |

I was impressed with the team that showed up today ! I still do not like how we let Pittsburgh just move down the field when the game was pretty much over but still....

POUND?
We quit and raced to the finish line to beat the clock. Thirty more seconds and it would be, "Steelers eek out a victory over Saints." WTF |
Re: The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers
I do wonder if Goodwin is starting so when a injury occurs at G/C Lelito steps in rather than Lelito start and any injury means shifting him to G to slot Goodwin into the lineup. I was all for Goodwin coming back when we didn't get the C in tge draft and think he was fine when the season started but he can stay fit and isn't 100% healthy imo

Re: The REAL Black & Gold Steps Forward - Saints pound Steelers
The pressure for Drew to put up 7s was not there today. for whatever reason, defensive play which was improved today but in no way was spectacular. Or Ben wrist was hurt and he was off target for almost 3/4 off the game. same thing we heard with GB and Aron. does not matter
The saints surrendered 3s in the first half for a change so Drew could go about business as usual. the pressure was off his back. overall the team looked good as a whole. The bend but do not break approach. Is all we need. |
