this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Ok, looks like a tossup between AB and Archie. One of the arguments is differnt talent. So if Archie played on today's team and AB played back in the day, who would perform better? [Edited on 4/1/2005 by lynwood]...

I don\'t even see this as debatable.
Under all the new rules favoring the pass and protecting the QB, Archie would have been in the hall of fame years ago. Likewise, if he-who-must-not-be-named had to play under rules where the WR\'s got mugged coming off the line and he couldn\'t wait for them to get separation, he-who-must-not-be-named would lead the league in sacks. But even if you want to make it a talent vs talent question and Archie had Horn to throw to and Deuce in the backfield, Peyton would have been trying to break Archie\'s TD record this year. If he-who-must-not-be-named had to play on Archie\'s teams, he wouldn\'t have lasted 3 seasons. |

I agree BMG. Plus if Leon said something about his team like that \"I am great, the team is....\" stuff back in the day, someone woulda knocked his teeth out. Before all this free agency stuff, players were A LOT more loyal to the team concept and never woulda thrown each other under the bus unless they were big enough to wanna have to fight.

Gotta go with Archie === 2 years from now I may say AB but until the guy becomes mature (in otherwords stop whining about how the media slams you -- quit bashing everyone on the team except yourself) and consistent and smart ther is no way one can compare AB to Archie

Archie. One forearm to the head and Brooks would have been done. The game was more violent then. Archie would be a Vick clone today. Runs as much as he throws - puts the game on his back when it\'s on the line... With a team like this, Archie would have been a hall of famer.

Archie would blow AB away with the same team that AB has. Archie was a natural leader. Players looked at how he played and took all that abuse and kept getting up and it made them play harder. We just didn\'t have the kind of skill players back then that we have now...................oh wait a minute, maybe we do..........
