Depth chart - what would you change

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Sean Payton referenced "no one is safe" in yesterday's presser. Whether next week or next year, we can expect changes to happen - coaches included. You're Sean Payton; what changes would you make? Depth chart attached - hope it's legible....

Re: Depth chart - what would you change

no one has a job! you earn it or your kicked to the curb.

right now we have a hand full of players worth keeping as starter. in the other hand we have some solid develop mental players.

other than that 60% of this roster is up for grabs.

So with that attitude i say we have 60% that will step up and the rest will be hanging by thread.

If we end up in the top ten in draft make every one aware you are shopping the pick and looking to get picks in order to replace the deadwood you have

that should kick more than a few players in the teeth and get their heads on straight. so lets step that 60% to 75%

one coach should be safe. SP.

Strike some fear into the organization as a whole. start talking to Rex about Robs job. if Rex get canned in NY. proves you do not care about social niceties. enough is enough

All the others better find their resumes because that may need it.

"We may have lost the game, but you'll be hurting tomorrow." Doug Atkins

Start Knox. If he is healthy. He looked fast in preseason with some great instincts.

Re: Depth chart - what would you change

Defense:

#91 > JR

Humber > Hawthorne

White > Vaccaro

Virgel > Deadrick

Powell > Haralson

Give SJB some playing time at the #2 spot. We need to see what he can do, if he flops then cut him now rather than two years from now.

Offense:

The most obvious Lelito > Badwin

Outside of that I am not sure where you go. We don't have the OG replacements in house right now. The biggest problem with the O is the lack of a true scat-back and no protection of Brees through the interior line.

Re: Depth chart - what would you change

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if Benson cleans house after the season is over, with SP moving to a front office position. I seriously think a major shake up is needed, and SP looks like he is completely burned out and may have lost the team.

For now all they can do is attempt to put the best remaining guys in the lineup and attempt to win the division. SP sounds like he is done fighting with the bad attitudes, so about all he can do at this point is bench them and move on.

Demote Galette to situational pass rusher and have him split reps with Edebali and Powell... Time to see what we have in Powell. Relegate Vaccaro to the third safety role. Don't really want to start Marcus Ball so maybe start Sanford and see what happens. Can't get any worse.

here is the only spot i have i have issues with. let Powell reduce Jr playing time.

or as you suggested do the speed rush package which i am warming up to as i type.

But move Haralson into the middle at the same time and see what happens. At least we know he can cover also.

Straight up cut robinson, white, hawthorne, goodwin, and bunkley. Restructure Colston, Grubbs, Evans for pay cuts. Maybe even gallete too. Maybe start trading players for draft picks.
Fire every defensive coach, ST coach jim mcmahon. Just try to acquire as many picks and find as much cap space as possible. We can't continue to go on how we have so we need to trim the fat and dead wood. This would be after the season of course.

I agree on cutting PRob, Hawthorne however White can at least tackle in space so he serves a purpose. Assistant coaches have done a poor job and it shows on the field. It will be interesting to see how this pans out at the end of the season.

We need better talent defensively - period.

Re: Depth chart - what would you change

Build the D in a true 3-4 manner, stating with a NT and a DT along sise him for depth with Hicks and Jordan, could be a stout line. LB needs to be a really good ILB to play next to Lofton, that shores up the middle for some tough running. Next OLB and with JR. being a 1 trick pony makes 1 side weak, Harrelson plays his roll well, I would let Powell compete with JR and draft a lower pick OLB to let Harrellson groom. On the O a stout(mean and nasty ) C and a RT. I think we keep 1 of the 2 G so one has to be replaced. I would love to make a couple of trades also instead of cutting. More picks.
