Should the Saints go after Scott McCloughan

Haven't heard his name? Neither had I. The architect of multiple championship rosters in San Fran and Seattle. The savant scout with personal demons...

All the recent talk about personnel issues and whiffed draft picks. Should we bring in a guy like Scott who's proven he can get it done?

I think most of you will like this read.

Scot McCloughan is NFL's best talent scout, self-employed and living on a farm

He has two Super Bowl rings locked in a safe. Each of the three teams for which he has worked in his 20 years in the NFL -- the Packers, two stints with the Seahawks, and the 49ers -- has reached the Super Bowl during his tenure or shortly afterward. McCloughan had a part in drafting six players who were on the Pro Bowl roster last season, including Patrick Willis and Vernon Davis. His report on Russell Wilson for the Seahawks a few years ago read: "Obviously we are really interested in passers with better height, but this guy may just be the exception to the rule. He has the 'it' factor."

I absolutely think we need a new talent director, this guy would be as good as any. The question is will it actually change? One thing we know is Payton has a lot of buddies that don't do their jobs well but he keeps them because they're pals, will the director of scouting be the same story?

It might be a failed effort with our D. Johnson and Vitt being there give me about 0 chance to develop a front 7 that plays consistant. As long as their entrenched up Payton and Loomis butt our D will suffer. And Lord forbid those 2 ever get a head-coaching job.

Benson has been great about unlocking the vault and spending money to get talent. He needs to write some checks and bring in some quality coaches and scouts.

Re: Should the Saints go after Scott McCloughan

I can make this real easy. We live where the best athletes do. We need some LSU players and other local talent on the Saints. LSU has 45 players in the league. Easily the most in the NFL of any college team. See:Beckham, Jeremy Hill, Patrick Peterson and on and on. The Saints have exactly zero LSU players. When we needed a safety badly(though at least Harper could tackle), we took Vaccarro when Eric Reid from LSU was still there. Eric Reid(day 1 starter stud safety for SF. 4.4 40 6"2 215-220. We take Vaccarro. 4.6 40. Why not just keep Harper? And Last year's draft was totally wasted.

Oh I almost forgot. I was always a big Roman Harper guy. I know he couldn't cover people and Seattle lit him up that playoff game which ended in the "beast mode run" but he's got three picks this year and is a team leader making big plays for the Panthers.

Wait for Harbaugh to get fired and then sign as many positional coaches as you can from that SF team.
