The Secret to the Bears' Win Was Simplicity

Thirteen of fourteen weeks coming into this Monday night's game I followed my long, long standing ritual of fully outfitting my living room with the gameday decor. From the Saints cover for the ottoman placed directly centered 15 feet from the 55" TV, to the full-sized Saints helmet that is really a snack center, to the Saints pillows and snuggie, and to the Saints fan flashing changing LED messages while sitting on a Saints scarf covered end table. It included me personally wearing my full garb from one of my Saints boxers which I feel is right for the day to one of several Saints undershirts to my 2006 Drew Brees black number nine jersey, socks, Saints headband and most importantly, the beads I wore to the Dome in 2009 in the playoff victory over Arizona.

The only week I missed the full regalia was the debacle against the Cowboys when I was on a ship in Central America.

Last night I made a drastic decision. No beads. No headband. No fan and scarf. No snack helmet!? I went minimalistic. I just donned my basic garb, sans beads and headband, set my ottoman covered in its hand-stitched NFL sanctioned, black and gold pattern the same 15 feet away from the action. But, I did face the pattern of officially licensed helmets, fleur-de-lis and "Saints" verbiage backassedwards from its normal configuration.

More of the same I think this Sunday. What do y'all think?

Everytime i wear a particular saints shirt the week prior or before the game starts they lose every time....stemming back to last year even.

And I thought you meant the Saints defensive game plan!

As I expected when I titled the thread.

Hey, y'all. I am serious about the input. Should I keep low key or ramp it back up? This is a true dilemma.

I wore zero Saints gear last night.

First time, maybe ever.

Wondering the same thing....

I did the exact same. I actually did housework while the wife did homework (no, she is not in high school BTW) with the TV on pause before the game so I could fast forward through commercials.

Whatever works.

I didn't watch.

Likely the single most important factor affecting the outcome.

Q: How do you keep bears away from your campsite?
A: Put up goal posts.

I think you're on the right track ... if the team simplifies the game plan, the fans follow suit. It's all about the team, IMO ... you follow their lead, :). It's only weird if it doesn't work, #HereWeGo.

I just listened to the game on the radio instead of going to the bar ... don't know if it helped, but I have noticed some extra cabbage in my wallet this week, :).

I pulled an old holy saints shirt out of moth balls my self. The one i have hidden from the x wife and girlfriends for some 20 years now. It is so holy and frail i have to be careful when taking it off so it does not rip. which is exactly why i have hide from all woman so long. i know they would destroy it because of its Holiness. evil temptress! all of them :)

Do you guy really believe any of that stuff matters? Please be serious. The Saints have to want it bad enough. That, is what matters.

Of course it matters! Are you saying it doesn't? You sound unbelievably logical....too logical.

Are you trying to tell me that when I turn my Saints beer coolie upside down (without the beer of course) and put it on top of the TV when the Saints are losing, it doesn't help??!!

Good work here. We need to see more of that. I still question if we need to draft another ottoman to be ready in 2 years.

I quit watching the pregame shows and stopped watching postgame after a win.

Every time I "gloat" by watching the postgame shows after a win we stink up the joint the next week, so I said no more after the Steelers win was followed up by the Carolina trainwreck.

Not taking any chances...

You should have run up and down the aisle yelling, "Hoogidie Boogidie!" I think inmates get access to TV.
