While we re-build the D with new linebackers, Saints must address the safety postion. With the new pass coverage rules Saints have to have a stud satefy. I have never seen a safety with less football instinct than Tebucky Jones. With the excpetion of the strip in the final game he makles no big plays. Saints coaches always talk about him as such a physical specimen. Who cares? Top teams have safeties that make game changing big plays: bone jarring tackles, interceptions etc. Tebucky is always late to the play and is a woefully poor tackler, going high...and inevitably missing. Send Tebucky packing along with lazy, FA bust Jonathon Sullivan. Is it just me or does Tebucky truly suck?

Seems like he isn\'t a naturally instinctive player to me. He has the athleticism, but maybe not the \"football smarts\" to go from cover then run support. Maybe if they made his assignments real simple, then we would get better play out of him. He semed to do better closer to the line than out in space. But do we want guys we have to dumb the defense down for any more?

AND Haslett said before the season that Tesucky spent all off-season working on one thing, TACKLING. lol
Also gator if you read Patriot Reign, Belichek wanted Tesucky gone and was gonna cut him. He said he was dumb as a bag of rocks and he was thrilled the Saints wanted him, and that the Pats fleeced a pick out of us for him. True story. It\'s in the book. Different standards I guess..... |

Another example of the crack front office! Sure everyone makes mistakes in the draft. And from time to time teams will take a chance on an aging verteran hoping to get a last few good years out of them only to find they have nothing left. But to spend over the odds in free agency on a project is pathetic.

Tebucky Jones is playing out of position. If he has to play his natural position he has less to think and more to react. Example, the Bentley move to center from guard.

Actually, the NE system at the time he was there used 3 safeties. Why do veterans who stand out elsewhere always tank here? Coaching maybe? System (product of the coaches)? Maybe they look better elsewhere.... wonder why that is? Maybe the other coaches know how to best use their players and get the msot out of them.... just a thought. LOL

I remember reading some quotes by Gleason this pre-season I believe. He said the scheme we have doesn\'t usually promote big plays from the free safety position. He then referenced how Sammy Knight made big plays while he was our SS. And how Bellamy looked so much better when moved from free to strong. I believe this somewhat. Tebucky\'s tackling has improved from last year, if you remember he probably fell off of 50% of attempts because he never wrapped up, only tried to strip the ball (poorly at that).
But the dude should be making some INT\'s. He doesn\'t even try for them. He just shows up late and tries to make a hit. I think he is improving, but for what we\'re paying him, and for what he should be doing with his measurables, he is a BUST! |
