New Orleans Saints' Jimmy Graham, Jahri Evans invited to NFL Pro Bowl
 

New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham and offensive guard Jahri Evans were selected to the NFL Pro Bowl, the league announced Tuesday night.

Other Saints could be added as players drop out.

Evans is making his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl appearance. Graham is making his third overall and second in a row.

In 2013, Evans, Graham, quarterback Drew Brees, guard Ben Grubbs and defensive end Cameron Jordan were selected.

If Brees isn't selected this year, his streak of consecutive Pro Bowl selections would end at six, which is one short of the all-time franchise record set by Willie Roaf.

The last year in which no Saints were invited to the Pro Bowl was 2007.

Graham was behind only Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots among tight ends in the fan portion of the balloting that ended last week.

Fans count for one-third of the total that determines Pro Bowl selections. The votes of NFL players and coaches also count for one-third each.

The Pro Bowl will be played on Jan. 25, 2015 at 7 p.m. in Glendale, Ariz., one week before Super Bowl XLIV is held at the same venue.

Doesn't surprise me at all.
Its always based on rep, the commentators keep saying how great player X is and the fans vote them in.

Well... it says they were invited. Does it mean they really have to accept? If you were in their shoes and played as poorly as we've all seen, would you be embarrassed to go to the Pro Bowl?

Like I said in another thread. I think Evans still has it and can perform at a high level. He just doesn't have the supporting cast he used to. He had the benefit of playing next to another All Pro guard which made him better. He is still a top guard in the league without one. Brees playing style is one which works best with offensive line strength on the inside as opposed to tackle. Let's find another high end guard and Evans will last as long as Brees needs him too.

People also forget that Graham played hurt for 3/4 of the season. Shoulder injuries are no joke. I think he was mostly in as a decoy to tell you the truth.

JG had the stats to be in the Pro Bowl. He still has really, really good numbers for a TE this season. We are talking about a "down year" for him being 80 something catches and 800-900 yards. That's not real terrible if you think about it.

Maybe the injury did take away his effectiveness. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I would agree with the stat portion, but to me, he just didn't play at a pro-bowl level. And maybe it was shoulder related but short-arming passes don't look good, hurt or not.

If I were Jimmy I would give my spot to Gates. I hear there is something in his contract though, that incentivizes making the pro-bowl.

In Jahri's defense, pretty sure it was hard concentrating on his assignments worrying about Goodwin either whiffing on a block or getting pushed 5 yards into the backfield.

Still, sub-par for Jahri is better than most NFL Guards.

AFC or NFC doesn't matter in the pro bowl anymore, the coaches select the players

Deion sanders and Michael Irvin both selected saints for their respective teams last year.

Playing fantasy, TE was a pretty crap year. No one really did much. So I guess I can see why Graham got in but Evans..come on now.

Thank you for saying it. I'm glad somebody did. As bad as Brown and DeLapuenta were last season Goodwin was worse than both combined.

I understand he was hurt but he is not Brees. We should not have to sacrifice a season because he is not fully healthy. Since when did Graham become our key to winning? He still is nothing like Gronkowski.

neither played at a pro bowl level this year. they need to go back to weighing the player and coaches in put heavier like in years past. this making it appealing to masses ideology the NFL has adopted is killing the game.
