Traditional SS yes, but I think the big nickel packages are still important with all the big receivers and the WR/TE hybrids. Vaccaro is perfect for it if he remembers how to tackle.

Vaccaro in my mind is trade bait, but Ryan loves him like a son so we'll stick with Scott Shanle v.2... |

Good for this young man, I like him a lot. Think there's a strong possibility he is a nickel defender next year with Bush getting cut/traded.

Re: SI - All Rookie Team... Pierre Warren?
I think with Byrd and Warren FS is set. Vaccaro and Sunseri as SS will be a good combo. Lewis, Robinson and a #2 FA CB we will be in pretty good shape in the backfield. White still plays well in the slot and with the best ILB in the draft and a NT in the draft we could be a really good D. My players I'll be watching from this year for improvement is Edibali and Powell if they can step up at the OLB position look out. JR. on passing downs makes taking another speed rusher in the draft a bad move in my book anyway. We have a high dollar 1 trick pony that is good at what he does the best already. But none of this will matter without the front push so give me my stud NT.

Re: SI - All Rookie Team... Pierre Warren?
I'd like byrd and warren overtop then maybe have vaccaro play down by scrimmage next year. It'd only work if we could get ANY pressure on the QB though. The D line stunk it up just as bad as the secondary.

Why not Vaccaro and Sunseri? I'm assuming Bush will also be on the team so I think it looks good (on paper). I think Vaccaro went through a Sophomore slump. I think he improves greatly his 3rd season.

as for the rest Bush - solid back up that is all. not a starter Sunseri - special teams developmental that has not shown enough yet. conclusion Byrd does not have a SS back there to him maximize his skill set and justify that cap hit. Just like we build around Drew now we need to build around Byrd also. kenny has a spot on this team lining up all over the place driving a QB and WR crazy. Warren as a dull set with Byrd? sorry he has not shown he can tackle in the open well enough much less plug lanes to help the defense against the run. he may make us regret the cap hit of Byrd down the road but not yet. we have a solid developmental FS now. those two on the feild on third and mile? yep i can see that |
