What? Have they seen our qb? And they don't have a great one yet either. What's up with that? Maybe becuase of Delhomme and Bulger's success elsewhere?

Also said Mike McCarthy is a leading candidate for coordinating offers in Jacksonville, Chicago, Detroit and Miami.

Also said, and I quote
Quote:

Jim Haslett said this week he doesn't want to make changes on his coaching staff this offseason
First sentence. Hello 8-8 or below and the 42nd ranked defense in the league. NO CHANGE?!?!?!?!?!?! Venturi Venturi Venturi VENTURI!!! I am thinking he has the pics of Haz and not Benson. What a joke. FIRE HASLETT NOW!!!!

Baltimore wants Shepperd as O-coordinator???

Nice snag saintswhodi. I hate the first line of that article, \"Jim Haslett said this week he doesn\'t want to make changes on his coaching staff this offseason. Unfortunately for him, it might be out of his hands.\"

Thought some changes were still on the way. :casstet:

Anyway this was the laugher, \"Sheppard is a strong contender because of his experience at developing quarterbacks and his relationship with Ravens coach Brian Billick.\"

I think it\'s more his relationship with Ravens coach Brian Billick thank his coaching ability. Didn\'t we try to bring in Joe Montana to mentor Brooks year before last? Why doesn\'t the coach do that?

\"-- Saints offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy has emerged as a candidate for offensive coordinator positions in Chicago, Detroit, Jacksonville and Miami.\"

I wouldn\'t mind a change at O coordinator, head off to Miami or De-toilet.

\"-- Saints offensive quality control coach Ben McAdoo is a candidate to join Coach Walt Harris\' new staff at Stanford. McAdoo interviewed for the wide receivers-tight ends coach job this week, Haslett said. \"

McAdoo is a good coach. I\'d hate to see him leave.

Agreed on all points Halo. That first line almost made me lose my breakfast though. Absolutely the WORST possible scenario for the next season. If McCarthy leaves, I don\'t think Haslett is competent enough to pick an adequate replacement. I hope he does leave though, and Norm Chow from USC would be my first choice at replacement.

Why would any of those coaches want to leave N.O.
You can have the worst output in the league at the respective position you\'re coaching at and still have job secutity (see Venturi).
Well there\'s always the year AFTER next. :(

I don\'t think that Hazlett could be a Head coach with someone like Fassel or Erikson around because of his ego. Also, either one of these guys would see what a putz, Fumbles is, and want to ditch him. Haz likes mediocrity (see last 4 season records) Therefore we\'ll be stuck with mediocre coordinators.

There needs to be some wholesale changes in the coaching arena of the Saints. We need to demote Venturi to LB coach, where, by the way, he is honestly excellent. We need either Mike Singletary or Sam Mills as D-coordinator. We need a new QB (preferably one with an IQ slightly higher than a land slug which we don\'t have now) and a coach to coach the new QB. Pease SHOULD NOT be the D-Coordinator. He\'s too damned good where he is and he is getting results.

The other guy to look at as O-coordinator is the LSU guy under Saban. He wasn\'t half bad. It\'s too bad the the D-Coordinator already went with Saban. He\'s killer.

Unfortunately..we could sit on here all day , spouting out reasons for change..and how to change..and some of the ideas are genuinly good..but..Accountability is a non- existent word in the Jim Haslett coached Saints vocabulary...Noone takes the blame on the field..or off..just excuses and lies...is all we hear and read....This organization needs an ENEMA...

NIce Take, but hopefully ur wrong. How can we keep a guy(venturi) who defense was last and then improved when HC became more involved...HELLO. Also, a HC who did not become more involved on a 32nd rkd. D until 4 games left??
And a OC who calls 3 draws in a row on 3rd and 7 or more(Tampa game)?

I agree with both posts here. What needs to happen is to demote Venturi back to a position coach where he is good to great, and bring in a Mills or Singletary who can build a game plan around the people he has and COMMUNICATE what needs to be done in simple terms, and not rocket science. O-Coordinator could be found most anywhere but in the Saints coaching office. The only thing offensive there is the smell of fear of Benson and Loomis.

This is all good news to me. If Haslett refuses to make changes to his staff, maybe he\'ll resign! Hurry up Benson, fire somebody!!!

As for McCarthy - I think the guys gets a bad rap. His playcalling can certainly be predictable at times and he has to be held responsible for the O\'s play this year. On the other hand, he has a very inconsistent QB, and I\'m not so sure he\'s the guy who wants him (as compared to Haslett). I think some of the O\'s inconsistency has to go on the QB - after all, just ask Billy, the players are the ones to blame. LOL ;)

Point is, this is the only year that the offense hasn\'t truly been GOOD. In the worst showing of Haslett\'s tenure this season, the Offense finished 15th - it\'s first finish not in or right at top 10 numbers. It did that with a shotty o-line, and injured RB, an inconsistent QB, and almost always playing from behind - and it\'s still better than the best Venturi\'s D has ever finished.

McCarthy is a good coach. People are mad b/c they want the Saints to score like they did in early 2002 - they want this offense to look like the Colts. I understand that, and I agree. But this offense is on average about 10th or 11th in the league. The defense is on average 26th or so. McCarthy ain\'t the problem. Put Peyton Manning at the helm instead of AB over the last 4 years and this offense IS the colts...

Personally, I want to see McCarthy stay.

Hey WhoDat, McCargthy is the same genuius that decided an offense that was working (Deuce w/ a fb) needed to be changed in the offseason for this crappy two TE set offense as the base, which Deuce openly complained about. Seems like the only ones who realized the Saints ran better with Karney in the game was the fans, until way late in the season. I would be glad to see McCarthy go just for those blunders alone.

You can\'t blame the guy for making a mistake. If he had made LOTS of mistakes, that\'s something else. Also, he corrected the problem IN-SEASON. That\'s more than I can say for most of the rest of the coaches on the team. I thought the switch to using Deuce more like the Rams used to use Faulk was not a bad idea. The two TE set stuff was unwise, no question. Both failed, but this offense was still dangerous and scored a lot again.

I\'m not so sure those changes were that deadly in the beginning of the year either. For example:

The first 8 games, the offense average 21.4 points per game. They had 4 games of 28 or more, and 4 games under 20. Meanwhile the defense allowed an AVERAGE of 29.25 points per game. Zero games under 20. They had 3 games where they allowed more than 34!! Most of the time the offense was down 10 or more (sometimes 20) in the first 15 or 20 minutes.

In the second half of the season when they \"turned it around,\" the offense averaged a whopping 22.1 points per game. A difference of less than 7 point over 8 games. The big difference was consistency. Only one game under 20. Zero games of 28 or more. The last 6 were 21, 21, 27, 21, 26, 21. The difference was that the defense allowed only 21.4 per game. 5 games of 20 or less. In the 4 game winning streak they allowed 13, 17, 13, and 18.

Look, McCarthy needs to get a little more out of the offense. No question. Fewer 3 and outs. Fewer penalties. They probably need to average 25 or so points a game for the team to really be successful. But the offense isn\'t the problem, the defense is. You also have to give the guy credit considering his all-star RB was out and look at his QB. I think that limits his scheme and play-calling. The defense doesn\'t help much either. Playing from 20 points down isn\'t easy either.

You forgot the most telling offensive stat of them all WHO. Remind me again how many games our offense didn\'t score in the first quarter consecutively? 13? Outscored 100 and some odd points to ten or 13? Don\'t we gameplan all week for Sundays? Do we script our first quarter? You would think by sheer luck or happen stance the offense would be able to SCORE in the first quarter, but no. They only score when they are down and open up. The points they averaged, I am willing to wager 75% of them came in the second half when we were winging the ball like the Jim Kelly Buffalo Bills. So at what point does out coordinator do something to change this? No point apparently cause we rode the seaon out the same way. He has to go also.

Looks like Mike McCarthy will be with the team for a while. His contract does not expire until March, and Haz has denied permission from other teams wishing to interview him. This basically means that when his contract expires in March, he will probably have no other option than to sign back with the Saints.

If for some reason McCarthy does leave, how about hiring Marv Levy? Marv is very interested in getting back into coaching, even on the coordinator level. Why not give the guy a chance? He is very proven. Maybe, lets hire him right now as an assistant head coach just to be on the safe side. The only thing Marv has going against him is his age. To me, this is no reason to keep him out of the league.

If Mike Sheppard is offered the job in Baltimore, I think he will do a good job. I think he got more out of Aaron Brooks than most coaches could have possibly dreamed.

As to demoting Venturi back to a position coach, I do not see it happening. Venturi being fired, I doubt it seriously. This dude is not going anywhere. Yes, the numbers have been bad during his tenure. I will give him one thing to his credit, the players on defense have been questionable at best. At least, at times, the defense has been at least okay. Not many times, but at least sometimes.

Well, I\'ve added nothing to the solution for resolving the Saints problems. Guess I am just another clueless fan who keeps dreaming of a Saints Superbowl victory. \"Maybe next year\"...
