For all those ready for the draft...

And for those who were 3 weeks before we were eliminated - a question:

Will one draft class really be enough to right the ship?

We've got so many holes we need to draft a handful of pro bowl starters and I don't see that happening.

We usually address our needs in free agency.

2006 Draft Class was pretty impactful.

Re: For all those ready for the draft...

A good guard and a good center and we are back to having the number one offense in football. a healthy Armstead, Cooks and Byrd cant hurt either. Get a good linebacker and I think we just need a middle of the pack defense.

I agree! Our good center is already on the roster in Lelito I believe

We could really bolster the O Line next year by drafting the OT from a&m. Move Armstead to Guard being how athletic he is

Re: For all those ready for the draft...

We don't need that much. An inside LB to replace Hawthorne, something resembling a #2 corner, a stud guard and a new year/fresh start. This was a snakebitten season from the 1st game.

Re: For all those ready for the draft...

NT is a need also. No push = a long day. I could see a C and G being drafted. My main concern is an ILB. Then solid depth on both the O and the D. I think we can pick up a good #2 CB in FA.

Well thanks again Saints, you screw up the season and now you screw up our draft pick just great.

This team is so freaking stupid and frustrating to watch. You give your div rival a Quarterback and lose a top 10 pick. Good job saints couldnt have capped it any worse. Thank the lord galette didnt get that sack bonus screw him.

galette is the best on defense but cause of salary cap reasons I am glad he didn't get it also

We drop about 3 spots. Oh the humanity!!!

Re: For all those ready for the draft...

Are you guys seriously insinuating that the Saints should've just lost the game so they could get a top 10 pick?

I'm not an NFL player but I am a fan and I've played competitive sports. That said, there is no way in hell I tank a game purposely to get a higher draft pick. And I probably wouldn't be a fan of this team if it rolled over and purposely lost to move up in the draft.

That's disgusting.

No top 10 pick then unless the Rams beat Seattle.

Probably end up picking 11

Are we even going to have the $$$ to sign a high pick???

To hell with that we need all the help we can get. As much as this team has pissed on this season they didn't deserve to win another game.

Whats the point? This way we get a better shot at a better player. Not only did you just hand the Buccaneers a competent Qb in Mariota, but we lost a top ten pick. For what, pride? What pride? This team lost all of it letting Carolina walk all over them in the dome. Losing to Atlanta for the division title last week, etc, theres at least 10 instances this season where they lost a lot of dignity as a football team.. This team needs to rebuild big time starting from the lines on both sides of the ball.

Thank you. This team was sloppy and unorganized from the get go. Shouldve lost a lot more games.

Purposely losing a game is not what players, coaches or organizations that have any self respect would do.

I agree with you that this team was terrible this season. But your argument about why they should've just purposely lost this game is like complaining that Drew Brees beat up your fantasy teams defense or hoping for bad fortune against your own team so your fantasy team will win.

Who cares if the Bucs get Mariota? If they wanted him they would get him anyway. And I really doubt dropping a couple spots in the draft is going to make or brake the Saints next season.

I respect your opinion on all of this. I just don't agree man.

Re: For all those ready for the draft...

I'm not saying tank the game, but we were down late, just play the young guys and see what you have in them. If they won the game then so be it, but to have all our starters out there was just dumb. If Brees got hurt we'd have been screwed for a while. Maybe play some guys and use them as trade bait to get more picks because its going to take a miracle to fix this team even if we have what looks to be a cakewalk schedule next year. I don't like them tanking very much either but i also wouldnt care since its week 17 and we're out. Tanking more games then i see the issue. If you start tanking for picks say week 14 then i see the issue, in our circumstance, i dont see the issue.

Oakland and Cleveland get " top picks" just about every year.
How has it worked out for them over the last decade?
You play to WIN regardless of record.

As another poster stated before ....its not where you pick, but who you pick. This is chess, its not checkers.

I agree with you on why were our starters were out there when you could have given some quality playing time to our back ups, especially Griffin. Also, why was Graham playing if he's hurt....or is he?

Yeah Lovie Smith is known as a great developer of offensive talent so I'm sure that QB pick will work out great lol.

Google the top 10 draft picks over the past 10 years. It's about as much a crapshoot as our draft position

I mean, I guess, but I'd rather at least have a better chance at a better player so we can make the best selection possible for the organization, but thats just me. To be honest it probably doesn't matter who we select since we suck at developing defensive players.

The second part of your statement should answer the first.

My hope is that coaching changes finally happen.

Re: For all those ready for the draft...

11. New Orleans Saints: Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa

Finding a pass-rusher is certainly an option here, but with four D-lineman already off the board, I think the Saints simply go with the best player available, regardless of position.

Brandon Scherff is not only a nasty, bruising blocker who will give the team a new identity in the trenches, but he's capable of thriving at either tackle position or on the inside as a guard, a la Zack Martin.

Perfect guy to replace whichever guard we get rid of in the offseason.

Re: For all those ready for the draft...

All this talk about Evans being cut.
If people are hoping for that i think there are going to be some very unhappy people around. I can see restructured deals for both Grubbs and Evans probably Colston too but out right cuts i doubt it. i do not see the front office, coach or Brees liking the idea of starting the season with two new pieces in the interior of the line. I think they restructure one of the guards they want to keep long term this year and then let one go next year after a new Center/Lelito has had a year to bed in beside two vets. Asking Lelito to play at center next to a rookie is asking for trouble.

It's hard to make a splash in FA when we so strapped in salary cap plus the situation with cam Jordan. Not saying its impossible with the signing of Byrd yet we did lose Sproles. Chances are we going to lose:

Marques Colston
Jahri Evans
Mark Ingram
Ramon Humber
Patrick Robinson
