Please let this happen. Need all new positional coaches on D plus new ST coach. I won't be mad or happy if Rob stays, has his work cut out for him. I hope we pick up as much of that SF coaching staff as possible.

Thought McGriff was a great hire when they got him and the secondary was great in his first year. You can't watch our DB play this year though and not single out the secondary coach. Young guys didn't perform, but what's even worse they didn't improve throughout the year.

running all around like they didn't even know where to line up. terrible.

Johnson certainly needs to leave. whoever the LB coach is can get the hell out too. We need someone that instills a nasty attitude.

Won't miss him. SJB's progress (and lack thereof) in his secondary and in this defense this year is also a testament to his coaching abilities. Great job. SJB tore it up out there in 2014.

Vandy's Defense should stack near the bottom of the SEC, just like they always do. So he has no pressure to succeed. He wouldn't know how to handle that anyhow.

Now...Special Teams Coordinator Greggy McMahon...you're up! Vitt's on deck!

Bill Johnson needs to leave too but I'm afraid he's one of Payton's cronies. We have had too much talent and too few results on the d-line for years and years now. Not even in the Super Bowl year did we really get a consistent pass rush. We did in 2013 but that was the only time since he's been position coach and it seems like a long long time ago now.

the saints should find it had to screw this off season up. two of the best defensive coaching staffs in the NFL look to be out on the street and looking for work. San Fran and the jets. serious defensive coaches on both teams.

we better not screw this up

Jeff thinks this is a big loss... lol Thinks that because Rob gave him praise. Jeff, Rob gave him praise because you never slam anyone to the public while they're working for you.

Addition by subtraction and the first step in the right direction, now we need to make several more moves like this.

Payton and Vitt are close. Read about it his book. He isn't going anywhere. Best to hope for is somekind of promotion out of the LB group.

He's already the assistant head coach. I don't think he's the problem with our LB's.

Joe Vitt and Johnson.

I hope new D-line coach recognises real talent and some players get more playing time. Walker is one (in that QB pursuit yesterday he looked faster than Hawthorne and Lofton)

I know exactly which one you mean

When the QB escape the pocket to the right and tried to run and walker came flying over, he looked very fast.

I thought "who the hell was that then?"

For all those who dont know:
Wes Mcgriff - Secondary Coach(obviously deatiled in thread)
Joe Vitt - Linebackers Coach/Assistant Head Coach
Bill Johnson - Defensive Line Coach
Greg Mcmahon - Special Teams Coach
Bret Ingalls - Offensive Line Coach

All are expandable imo.

Wes is already on his way out, thats 1 down. Im really hoping Vitt & Bill follow. But Mcmahon did have a decent year with that unit, specifically on coverage. Saunders made a world of difference once he was handed the duties over Cadet. Im all for cutting cadet & never believed in his abilities.
With that said, Mcmahon expendable on my list.

We'll see if payton honors his words, who reiterated that changes will be made.

Before the start of the season, SP and Brees talked cadet up so much they made him sound like the second coming of 2011 Darren Sproles

Cadet brings almost nothing to this team, he's a waste of a roster spot.

Exactly. Agreed.

Cadet's duties: passing game, PR, KR

Passing game: Pierre>Cadet & its not even close
KR/PR: Saunders>Cadet & its not even close
I see a trend there.

Its like cadet is a heat seeking missile that runs straight for the pile. He shows no burst or elusiveness imo. I guess they liked his size? Lol. Cut him.

He may not be the only problem, but he's clearly not the solution. He's been here for a long, long time and we continue to get next to nothing out of that position group.

If a coach is worth anything, he can't make excuses about talent, or lack thereof, for his entire career. At some point, you have to show an ability to develop players. He has not done that.

But every LB thats left here and gone elswhere hasn't played any better. Cassillas and Dunbar are playing just about the same with their new teams as they did here.

Lofton, Vilma, Hawthorne, Humber and Haralson didn't play worse when they came here.

Martez Wilson was even worse when he left here.

I think we simply suck at drafting LB's. There's really no evidence at all that suggests its coaching, but there's plenty of evidence that says we suck at picking LB's.

Of course it might help if we decided to start picking LB's before the 4th round.

Alvin Toles
Rickey Jackson 1981

Five picks in the first two rounds in 34 years.
