Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
We will see how it plays out when big numbers with $ in front of them come out!
"I'd love to be a Saint," Ingram said. "But it's a business. So we'll see what happens, see what they're talking about in the front office and just go from there." The market value of NFL running backs has fallen in recent years, but Ingram is only 25 and presumably has plenty of mileage left on his legs. The Saints aren't known for spending big money on backs, and they've developed inexpensive options like undrafted free agent Khiry Robinson. Resign the guy will ya !!

Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
"But it's a business" is always code for I'm taking the contract with the most guaranteed money. And the NFL is a sport where players' careers end suddenly, so I cannot fault him for that.

Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
He's been unhappy in a time share, he's been labeled a bust for the draft pick investment, and he's had his flareups with Coach Payton...
Don't see him returning if all things are equal with other suitors... |
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
Too easy to find undrafted RB's... Best of luck Mark, but we have other more pressing needs to spend money on.

Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
We all want you back Mark.

Yeah I don't see him back either and frankly that doesn't bother me. I don't think he brings anything we can't find cheaper. We are not a one back team, we are not a run first team. We will always be a running back by committee group. I am sure that if Robinson or Pierre Thomas got the carries Ingram received the results would have been very similar.
We always find RB's who can be part of that committee like Robinson and Thomas. We had guys like Chris Ivory and Joquie Bell and let them walk because we were RB heavy. Almost every team in the league was into their 3-4 RB's throughout the year. Draft another with a mid round pick, bring in a veteran FA and prospect a couple undrafted FA's and we are no worse for wear. Sorry Mark but you can find your money from someone else. |
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
He was finally healthy, and had a great year. Bring him back.

All speculation Ingram would benefit from a better O Line just as much as Brees would. |
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
I like Ingram, but he is not an elite back like some of the guys out there. If he wants that kind of $, he's got to go, he is replaceable.

Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
Best wishes else where.

Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
I personally would like to see him back. He pretty well carried the O on his back. 7-9 could easily have been 4-12 without him. I think he likes being here and will take a decent contract(unlike Graham did) to remain here.

Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
I'd like him back for the right money but a Thomas-Robinson 1/2 with a late/UDFA as the third back free's up a few million that could be better spelt elsewhere
|
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
I'd like to have him back.
But some one is going to throw a truck load of money at him and we will have to let him walk. is there a replacement on the roster? i do not see one. Robinson was so so this year. i have a gut feeling SP will look for the second coming of Darrin Sproles in the draft. could that be Mike Davis Ameer Abdullah |
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
Wouldn't surprise me to see Atlanta cut Jackson to sign him
|
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
Bring him back and give Drew & Ingram a better OL.
|
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
Let him go....he's looking for a feature back role and pay to match. We will never have a feature back as long a Payton is here. He averaged 4.3 ypc....lower than Thomas and K Rob....
Thanks for your effort Ingram....see you later on... |

Khiry didn't do that great of a job with Ingram hurt. |
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
I want him back.
He'll be allowed to test FA, determine a value (keep in mind that's low for RBs) We'll be in play the whole time and hopefully retain him at the right price. If not, there's plenty of top RBs to be had in rounds 2,3,4 |

Here is the thing with RBBCs, they are only going to be effective with one thing. A great QB. Meaning Brees has to do most of the work for RBBCs to spell. Other than that a RBBC will be a disaster. Look at teams that have RBBCs like the bucs, bills, dolphins, lions, pats. The pats have Brady and a defense, the lions are having a fluke year have a defense and Megatron, the bills have a defense which helped with 9-7 otherwise bad. The bucs RBBC is why they were bad and the dolphins RBBC is why they can win no more than 8 games. If we are trying to be run first, a RBBC without Brees being effective will not cut it. Ingram really this year was not in a timeshare but when PT came back, he hasn't looked the same. |

The saints FO better be ready for this challenge. Atlanta will go balls out this offseason and raise the stakes. This isn't 2008 anymore the NFC South now plays hardball. Time to adjust. |
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
If Atlanta wants to sign and over pay for his services then so be it...they have a feature back already on the roster.
They are a pass first team anyway. Look at how they have built their offense. |
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
After the way Saints fans trashed him the last 4 years, I'd jump ship in a heartbeat.
|
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
He will sign a 4 year deal with the Saints. Probably around 14-16 million total.

I would like to see him back, but no way the brass signs him back. Deep down he wants out, cause he will never get his carries on this team
|
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
If Ingram was trashed, it was because he failed to play to his draft status...

Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
I'm not really bothered either way. He had a much better year running this year, but he still lacks the vision to find the optimal holes to run through and IMO he lacks the conviction to hit those holes as aggressively as someone like Robinson.
I wouldn' mind having him back, but the cap needs to go somewhere else. Also, I feel like he'll have more personal success some other place. |
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
Market value and no more.
|
Re: Mark Ingram looks ahead to uncertain future: 'I'd love to be a Saint'
They didn't pick up his option for a reason.
