He's probably right. If we see a better interior o-line next year we'll be able to know it for sure.

Has Carl Nicks retired/ or with another team? Would it be worth it to try to re-sign him?

Re: Opinion: Brees hasn’t changed as much as many think

If you watch with an honest eye, he's throwing more ducks and his downfield accuracy is no where near what it was three years ago...

His experience has been able to offset his decline to this point...

Also, teams no longer game plan for him to pull the ball down and take off as he's reluctant to do so...

The team's resultant record is a direct correlation to two thing concerning Brees:

One, his contract made it somewhat prohibitive to re-sign Nicks (team should have gone all in then, if they were going to keep Brees at 20mil+, then they should have kept his protection intact as well) and other quality free agents on the offensive line...

Two, teams now stack the upper two thirds of the field now as they are not as threatened of the deep ball when the Saints could easily stretch the field making them so dangerous, as Brees no longer converts deep throws at the rate he used to, you've got congestion on the mid and shorter routes, bumping the receivers off their spots, slowing down the Saints once high-octane offense...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

The few times they utilized Cooks deep and Brees actually hit him in stride were encouraging

Drew goes on streaks every year.
Drew never had a cannon for an arm
When Drew gets hot he gets hotter than almost any QB in the NFL.

decline of the OL has not helped. for years now the saints have been playing it too cute with OL and it shows. That is the biggest issue we have, only once in a blue moon do you pro bowl caliber late in the draft. this trying to pull wabbits out of hat year after year has landed us more turds than furs.

Nicks bit is kinda funny. Nicks just started to have issues with being healthy just before his contract came up to be redone. we let him walk.

2011 - was his last 16 game season
2012 - 7
2013 - 2

I say the saints saw the writing on the wall with this move. two thumbs up to the training staff.

Solution stop out thinking yourself. spend the picks now before the OL is ready to be retired and full of bums

Re: Opinion: Brees hasn’t changed as much as many think

That MRSA virus that went round the Tampa locker room killed Nicks career.
Having a ongoing injury then contracting that virus must have been a nightmare. The league was a disgrace the way the dealt with that, that virus is as bad as any head injury and it pretty much cost Nicks and Tynes careers, they tried screwing Tynes too by placing him on a non football injury list, they didn't place Nicks on IR either as it would have admitted liability.

Re: Nicks, $6m of his $7m due in '14 was gtd for injury. But remember, he was never IR'd last year. That would've been admitting liability.

Accuracy aside, still under throws too many deep balls.
