Junior Galette Arrested: Latest Details, Comments Surrounding Saints Star | Bleacher Report If he is not on the roster at that point, then the Saints are off the hook for the majority of his salary this year. Because 12.5 of that 15 million is roster bonus. Let me repeat: If he's not on the roster, he doesn't collect the roster bonus. This is not hard to understand. |

do you understand what guaranteed money is? means we have to pay it regardless if he is cut or not... We can't cut him without paying whatever is left of the 23 million guaranteed, but keep arguing |

Roster bonus works like this: If you are on the roster when the bonus comes due, you get it. Typically these are broken down by game though. For instance you might get a 10 million roster bonus, divided by 16 (because there are 16 games). If a player only plays 8 games then, he would only receive half that roster bonus. Galette's roster bonus was fully guaranteed, meaning that even if he missed half the games he would still get the whole thing. But even then, he doesn't get any of it if he is not on the roster come March 12. Hope this helps. The dead money is another issue, but most of that is being kicked down the road. Cutting him wouldn't have much effect on this year's cap. If you are worried about 2017 or 2018 that's another issue but I doubt Loomis is thinking that far ahead. We're year to year at this point. |
Re: Junior Galette Arrested
Can't be that big of a deal with only a $600/$300 bond |

Junior Galette Contract Details and Salary Cap Charges | Over The Cap shows that Galette has 16.2 in dead money and cutting him would only save us 750,000... that still 15.something we will have to pay regardless where he is next year  After next year, he will have 2 million guaranteed left, and we will save more by cutting unless he restructures |

I would, however, suggest that you do some research on what a roster bonus is, how they are paid out, and figure it all out for yourself. It's really not that complicated once you get into it. |

With your "theory" we could cut Drew because he has no roster bonus and not have to pay him the rest of his guaranteed... ignorance... |
Re: Junior Galette Arrested
Quote:
Galette's cap number is $15 million dollars. The roster bonus, $12.5 million, comprises most of that $15 million. Therefore, if he doesn't receive his roster bonus, the cap number is greatly reduced (keep in mind, I'm only talking about in terms of this year, not the dead money from other parts of the contract that gets carried into future years). I should note that overthecap's projection are made with the assumption that the roster bonus will be paid out. If the player is cut before the bonus comes due their projections will change accordingly. That's what happened with Lance Moore and Harper last year, for instance. Hence we are not carrying a huge dead money number for them (among others). Your example about Brees is the exact reverse situation. So I don't know exactly where you are coming from here. |
Re: Junior Galette Arrested
It goes without saying that all of this is extremely hypothetical since the charges don't seem big enough to justify Galette's release anyway. The point was only that, if Loomis chose to do so, it's not a huge tragedy as far as the salary cap is concerned. With that, I'll bow out of the "argument."

Re: Junior Galette Arrested
I know one thing, when the police show up they don't just hook someone up and take them to jail on a he said she said deal. Not to mention this is not some random guy. The police probably knew who he was before they got there.
There has to be physical evidence to corroborate one or both parties stories. Then the police will take the aggressor to jail. I'm not saying that what always happens, but that's what should always happen. And I'm thinking if the police arrested a local icon like Junior, they know he'd have a good attorney because he has money, so they have to make sure there is a strong case on him before they ever arrest him. |
