This year we drafted players from Nebraska, Alabama, Oregon St., Florida and Kansas. Last year we drafted players from Texas, Oklahoma and Georgia. In 2012 we took players from Nebraska, Syracuse and Wisconsin.

The only small school players we've drafted in the last three drafts were Corey White, Terron Armstead, Akiem Hicks and Rufus Johnson. Three of those are regular contributors, two of them have performed at a very high level.

Just in general, as a philosophy, we have soooo many of these projects, reaches, stretches, long shot picks and riverboat gambling type draft picks and free agent acquisitions on our team these days. And in the beginning, it worked really really well, with guys like Colston, Nicks, PT, etc. But now, they keep on reaching, and groping ever further, and signing these weird, obscure guys, small school unknowns, minor school programs, or guys like Gallette who come to the team with obvious baggage and red flags.

Look around the defense: you have all these minor, journeyman, barely-NFL-caliber guys from no-name schools sprinkled around in this defense...and everyone is saying they lack leadership and they can't figure out the schemes and learn the system or whatever the excuses are. Well, anybody wonder why? You don't learn that stuff or how to be a locker room leader, at the City University of Saskatoon or John Jay Haircutting College or if you only played one football season as a senior, and majored in curling or badminton in college instead of football.

I'd agree with that. It seems like they're trying to get too cute with some of the non-mainstream selections.

Also, I'd like to see us settle on a base scheme, and pick players that fit that scheme.

No more 4-3 types if we're running mostly 3-4 and vise-versa. Round peg, meet round hole!

And how about a LB in the first three freakin rounds of the draft?
And how about a OL in the first three freakin rounds of the draft?
And how about picking some players who don't need 3 freakin years to develop?
And how about we not pick a RB in the first three freakin rounds of the draft?
And if we're gonna play man coverage, how about picking a CB who plays freakin man coverage?
And how about less clothes on the freakin Saintsations too?

There are always plenty of starters 6th, 7th, and UDFA. Opportunity cost by missing on Rooks. Here are some of the picks after Who? Rook:

ILB Jackson, W. KY (not that we needed any run-stuffers there; plus Hawthorne did so well)

WR Jeff Janis, Saginaw Valley St (nah, our WRs never get hurt and GB doesn't know how to draft WRs late, especially white ones)

ROT Seantrel Henderson, Miami (nope, he'd just be wasted being groomed to replace Strief and Armstead will never get injured...although Henderson started for Miami)

OLBs Smallwood (UConn) and Starr (S. Dakota)...silly to give up on Junior learning to keep containment and/or stop the run. Give him another year. 2015 for instance

I wanted Jackson last year in the draft, he was my sleeper.
