Unfortunately looks like he is staying with the team. He, along with the other scouts are a large reason why the team sucks at drafting defensive talent.
Got promoted to his spot in 2007... and hasn't hit on any drafts. I don't get why this guy gets so much praise and recognition considering our piss poor scouting and talent acquisition. I guess that's why I am just a fan though. So folks, doesn't look like much is changing. I have low expectations for the 2015 Saints right now, that could change but it's unlikely. Re: Ryan Pace
Idk how I feel about this. We need someone who can properly scout and assess talent. I feel like we don't have that. Either we take bust picks constantly, or we just can't develop players to save our lives. Probably a little of both, but still its frustrating. I wouldn't want to be drafted by us at this rate.

Re: Ryan Pace
I read somewhere that Loomis was spending more time with the Pelicans and giving Pace more responsibility with the Saints...

Re: Ryan Pace
If he's responsible for even half the picks other than cooks last year i hope he goes. If he is responsible for our sleeper picks then i hope he becomes GM. We're really bad at drafting.

Re: Ryan Pace
Disagree vehemently with the OP. In the past three drafts we've taken Hicks, White, Vaccaro, Jenkins, Rufus Johnson, SJB, Fortt, Powell, Sunseri as defensive players. We don't know much about the guys from this year except Sunseri and Powell are good special teamers with potential to be role players on the D.
But 4 out of 5 picks from the previous two years have been regular contributors. Two regulars from each draft. This scouting dept also got steals in Armstead, Stills on offense and it appears Toon is ready to step into a bigger role too. And that's without having a lot of picks available. nevermind all the UDFA's like Foster, Robinson, Josh Hill, Walker, etc. who appear to be pretty solid role players. These overreaction threads are getting ridiculous. We could very possibly go 10-6 or better next year and then you'll be all like "our scouting dept rules!" |

Re: Ryan Pace
I think the weakness is not so much the people doing the picking, as it is maybe the philosophy.
Just in general, as a philosophy, we have soooo many of these projects, reaches, stretches, long shot picks and riverboat gambling type draft picks and free agent acquisitions on our team these days. And in the beginning, it worked really really well, with guys like Colston, Nicks, PT, etc. But now, they keep on reaching, and groping ever further, and signing these weird, obscure guys, small school unknowns, minor school programs, or guys like Gallette who come to the team with obvious baggage and red flags. Look around the defense: you have all these minor, journeyman, barely-NFL-caliber guys from no-name schools sprinkled around in this defense...and everyone is saying they lack leadership and they can't figure out the schemes and learn the system or whatever the excuses are. Well, anybody wonder why? You don't learn that stuff or how to be a locker room leader, at the City University of Saskatoon or John Jay Haircutting College or if you only played one football season as a senior, and majored in curling or badminton in college instead of football. I feel like they need to veer back to the center, and balance the reaches and the stretches and project players with more solid, well-coached guys from BIG TIME college football programs and reliable, solid VETERAN free agents from other teams, who know how to lead the locker room or fire the team up on the field -- like the Jon Vilma, or Jeremy Schockey type guys used to have that leadership role on the team. |
