Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
Here is the NOLA article:
New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to return next season, source says | NOLA.com Here is the big hope: "However, the source added, there are looming changes to the defensive coaching staff as well as personnel on that side of the ball. Within the past few days the Saints already have parted ways with three assistants, longtime tight ends coach Terry Malone, receivers coach Henry Ellard and assistant secondary coach Andre Curtis." |

I think PRob, White, Deaderick, Hawthorne, Bunkley, Haralson, and a few others might want to polish up their resumes.

Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
I hope they let him have input as to whom he needs to improve this defense. I'm not sure PRob, White, and Deaderick are gone...the others are a toss up as well. I like Haralson in the running game but he is a huge liability if he has to cover anyone. Hawthorne....well he was very inconsistent and seems slow. We have to get faster on all levels of the D.

Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
An OLB and a defensive end because our safeties have to double duty as linebackers because of weak line and linebacker play. Scheme or no, we play like that to cover up a weakness.
Also 1 more "for real" CB. Now, how will Loomis fit all that along with key replacements on the o-line into 1 off-season will be a mystery and require super shuffling. |
Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
I'm glad,he deserved another shot

Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
I'm sorry and I'm not trying to be negative, but keeping Rob Ryan was a bad move. Especially since the main coaches on defense are returning next year. I know they said there will be some coaching changes, but I really don't think Vitt, Johnson, or McGriff will be leaving. Also are we going to draft player who can help right now or developmentally players to give Rob a shot at success. You got to have talent and we don't have much. I truly hope I'm wrong and the Saint defense of 2015 will be a good one.
|
Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
Talent is not the issue. Coaching them up to their talent is a different story.
I'm also glad Rob is getting another chance. Hopefully it'll work out for the best. If teams are going to start firing coaches after every down season, there would be absolutely zero stability in this league. You'd be asking for players and coaches to learn and teach different schemes every year. |

Maybe this means fewer offensive toys and more serviceable defensive players. |
Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
All it's gonna take is a good #2 CB and the defense will be much better. I think they've realized they need to stop trotting garbage out there opposite Keenan Lewis and hoping the result is good enough.

Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
It's only fair he gets another shot, he wasn't the one missing tackles and putting zero effort in the entire game.
|
Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
I hope Vitt gets run out of town, Johnson too.
|
Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
We still had a coach left over from Spagg's staff for pete's sake.
It's obvious that elements of the organization had become stale. Improve the coaching staff. Add a few key players in FA & draft. Win the NFC South in 2015. |

Keep Rob. LET HIM MAKE THE CALLS AS TO WHO STAYS AND WHO GOES.
1 good year. 1 bad year. Give the man the ability to sink or swim through his own actions and NEXT year act accordingly. |

Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
Accept rob for what rob is and always has been a mid twenties defensive coordinator. stop putting on blinders and expecting anything different.
blaming the coaches under Rob for what happened is blaming the same coaches everyone was praising before the 2014 season started. So i am at a bit of loss for the blame stopping with them  Now we are looking forward to more changes personnel wise. The brain trust cut a bunch of veterans that turned out to be the leaders in the locker room for the defense and boy that work out well? suggestion resign Harper Sorry i feel like i am being sold a bill of good here. My expectations are low and in check. I hope for one thing. In game adjustments on defense  never really has been a Rob strong suit. maybe just maybe he will learn this trick of the trade. we better not pass on getting Drew the help he needs Rob will never build a defense in time to take advantage of the window that Drew offers. As a matter of fact do not expect a defense to come close to matching the dome patrols impact in keeping the saints in the playoff run after Drew stops playing all i hear are excuses that were not voiced before the 2014 season. Rob looks have joined Vit in the coaches petting zoo. caution it appears the kool aid is getting ready to be served again. At #13 saints select Landon Collins SS Bama only kidding. i hope :( |
Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
too early for mocks, but you gotta feel good about 4 LB's listed in the top 17
I'd rather get a decent CB via FA rather than wait on another project NFL Mock Draft 2015: Projections for Landing Spots of Top Prospects | Bleacher Report |

Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
I hope Shaq has a good combine so he moves up and we have a chance at Ray. We do need ol help though, I would also like a backup LT to Armstead as we saw the last two games what its like without him.

Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
I think we have talent on D. We just had the 4th ranked D the year before. Rob will turn it around if he can pick his own coaches. What does it look like when he tells Vitt what to do? He probably laughs and tells Rob to shut the hell up. He needs people to have to respect him.

Great, Hopefully our offense will be less cavalier and we can improve to 8-8????? We have athletes on defense. We need a DC that understands there strengths and weaknesses. Our personnel constantly looked lost in space. This is a very disconcerting that RR after 33 games plus practice and preseason games still has the keys to this defense???????????? |
Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
It's pretty darn simple. For them to fire Rob Ryan, it would mean Payton and Loomis admitting THEY MADE A MISTAKE in hiring him. When have those two EVER admitted to making a mistake or being wrong about anything? When Spags was here for one year they had the convenient excuse that Payton and Loomis were suspended and out of the building, to fall back on. Very tidy, no mess to clean up. Plus I think in Spags' case, you had that anonymous media report, the article about players criticizing him that came out around New Years', and then Payton came back a week or two later and I suspect he pulled aside a few trusted guys like Vilma and Harper and asked them what the *** was going on, and got his answer.
Firing Rob Ryan right now would destroy the Myth of the infallibility of Payton and Loomis, and only draw more attention to the team's problems, that have happened in recent years under their watch. Ryan stays, at least for now. |

Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
everyone had rob figured out mid way through the 2013 season yet he could not adjust. the tweaks he did in 2014 were ok but not enough. again no adjustments till injuries forced his hand.
he is what he is and nothing more. |

Re: Rob Ryan to Stay "Sources Say"
I will start by saying I am glad Ryan was given another shot. I never like the idea of having a cook make a meal when someone else buys the ingredients as Parcells used to say. Ryan was handed his assistants, positional coaches and players and very few pieces have his direct fingerprint on them. Let him have carte blanche discretion over personnel and coaching on his side of the ball and we can judge based on that.
But.....Rob Ryan has a reputation as a pressure coach with exotic blitz packages and scheming to disguise pressure. We were one of the lowest teams in the season last year in pressure. And I don't mean generating pressure I refer to sending pressure of more than 4 people attacking the QB. I believe the stats I saw were 27% on 1st down, 28% on second and 35% on 3rd. These are hideously low numbers for a guy reputed to be an attacking/dictating DC. Why was that? Our secondary was riddled with injuries and we had street FA's playing, back ups to back ups playing. You would assume the best friend you could offer a weak secondary is disrupting and rushing QB's. Letting them sit back, unhindered would be the worst thing you could do, yet that is what we did. I was not impressed with his ability to coach guys into effectiveness, to motivate players at a low point or to understand that what he was doing was not working and make adjustments. I didn't see any radical changes to scheme to at least be different. We just stayed a course of hoping for improvement which didn't really occur. We had a few games where our effort and base defense was enough to get us by an appear as improvement. But when all was said and done we were pretty much consistently bad and I didn't see alot change over the course of the year. I think Rob only gets one year to improve though, even though that's not enough time to change his staff and personnel and install everything that needs to be, tweak it, and show definitive forward progress. So this is where he needs to prove he's a coach and make more out of less. I hope he is successful and the guy who can do that. |
