Jeff Garcia and Joe Horn started in the CFL as well. I was very pleased to see Tom Johnson have a good year in Minnesota as well.

The #2 CB spot is his to lose.

Why did we let Tom Johnson go?

I guess Walker and Foster's potential made him expendable.

And yet they both did next to nothing all season whilst Johnson had his best year, great decision yet again FO.

I'm happy with Foster and Walker. Can't keep em all....

Excited to see what Breaux brings in camp but I'm not assuming we have the #2 spot filled.

My thoughts exactly. Get on the field an prove yourself at camp. No positions are etched in stone at this level.

True, but I'm not sure anyone believes he's the #2 yet. I'd say the odds are 50/50 that he even makes the team.

I'll bet we add 3 or 4 more players that could win that spot.

My FA list: Maxwell, Culliver, Skrine, Cox (in that order)

wow; with our cap situation? Good luck with that...

Re: Delvin Breaux

Not all of them lol

Brees and Galette restructure could free 20 mil in cap space.

And you can cut: Hawthorne (3mil), Bunkley (2,5mil), restructure Evans or Grubs (3mil), cutting Evans saves 6mil...

Our cap situation is not that bad.
Brees and Galette restructure could free 20 mil in cap space.

key word equals could; nothing is imminent and any restructuring is speculation at this point.

Until restructuring happens and not speculated we are in a severe cap situation

Yep, agreed...maxwell or culliver would be solid. We can definitely make a run at maxwell this year, "If" we choose to do so. Im in the number that was worried about our cap & hate that we keep backloading, but restructures & cuts which are inevitable makes this possible. We have to get under the cap one way or another so it will happen.

Hey mitch, go mess around with the GM tool on fanspeak. Gives you some insight. Fun stuff

Me too. It's pretty great what Zimmer was able to do with that defensive front. And they have a pretty good trio of DTs in Joseph, Floyd and Johnson - great for rotation.

Galette doesn't seem like the restructuring type. I think he's happy that he got his.

Great defensive minded coach. The Bengals sack numbers dropped by 50 percent from 2013. It goes to show how important scheme and coaching really means. Great teams with great coaching recycles players all the time. We need to find some consistency with developing and coaching our players up as the talent is already here.

I could not agree more.

This is a thread about Delvin Breaux right? I just found out he played for LSU making him the Saints only former Tiger. So of course I really hope he shines and we have two Louisiana corners.

Re: Delvin Breaux

Contract details just released. Great work guys!

Breaux bought in on the shot to start immediately as CB#2.

With this savings at CB (and assuming he wins the job), we could spend money to upgrade OL and front seven! (maybe)

Quote:

Breaux's contract includes the league minimum base salary in each of the three years, according to the NFLPA. His base salary is $435,000 in 2015, $525,000 in 2016 and $615,000 in 2017.

A portion of his 2015 salary -- $138,000, according to a league source -- is guaranteed even if he's released by the team.

Breaux, who joined the Saints after two years in the Canadian Football League, also received a $12,000 signing bonus.

Very little risk and potentially huge reward... This could end up being a major steal!

Agreed however I will have the 'wait and see' mindset with Delvin. I still see the Big Lebowski/Dennis Allen putting their collective heads together this off season & try to acquire a vet FA corner back. Frederick showed flashes, Dixon will greatly improve with Allen back, PRob is ... well PRob and Corey White is a nickle at best.

We need depth at this position.

First of all, restructuring ALWAYS works in the player's favor. That is why it is a last resort of sorts. Secondly, Galette is due a $12.5M roster bonus meaning a cap hit in 2015 of the same. If I'm not mistaken, the Saints have the option of converting the roster bonus into a signing bonus which can then be prorated over the final five years of his contract, thus reducing the 2015 hit to $2.5M, or an immediate cap saving of $10M off this upcoming cap. Galette still gets his full $12.5M right away, therefore he's happy.

Well you did just name 4 backup CBs (should we keep all).

Robinson is the only free agent. I'm not sure a change of scenery will help him. Personally I like the guy - he's come back from injury and being benched. The players support him 100% and I hope that somehow he stays with us and develops into a solid defender.

White has a dead cap of $44k. He fell off last year but so did everyone else.

Agree we need another CB through FA.

I'd give Breaux a season to learn.

How funny would it be if one day SJB and Delvin Breaux are our starting CBs?
