Saints and Patriots are similar, but Bill Belichick’s infamously shrewd approach is the difference

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I don't remember any mention of Payton cutting the sleeves on his hoodie. The sleeves were curious. Sometime late in the season, New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton decided to pull out a pair of scissors and cut the sleeves ...

The sleeves were curious.

Sometime late in the season, New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton decided to pull out a pair of scissors and cut the sleeves off his hoodie, about mid-forearm. This is a look that should not copied.

Not because it has become associated with sloppiness — though Payton managed to make it look clean — but because this look is synonymous with New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. And Belichick has done everything short of placing a trademark on it.

“I don’t have a problem emulating him or what they do,” Payton said.

I like Belichicks approach better to be honest. I think he's an overall better coach than Payton. Not to knock Payton of course. Belichick to me is the master game planner with his ability to take away the opponents best weapon and then force them to do something they're not as well equipped for.

I agree. SP is known for complicating things, for example the double reverse on 4th down against Tampa in the Superdome a few years ago. Only needed a yard or two and he calls that crap and of course it gets blown up.

Although he has gotten better at doing the right thing, most recently the playoff game against the Eagles when he ran the ball to get in position to kick the GW FG.

True, but there were a couple times this year his stubborness has caused us some trouble. Mainly on fourth down this year, I can't remember us converting on fourth in many crucial situations this year. I just wish he was smarter with the defense like BB. That's always been our downfall with SP, the consistency of our defenses. The offense has been ugly the past two years though as well, so hopefully he relinquishes some control to Pete Carmichael or even Drew Brees. Like in 2011 he didn't call the plays and we set crazy records. His playcalling just hasn't been what it was pre-2011.

Belichick has a better owner.

Belichick has been more creative.

Belichick has a better coaching staff.

Belichick may arguably have a better GM.

Sean Payton has control over two of those aspects. Both of which I think have led to sub-par seasons.

I won't even mention Goodell. Although I just did. Goddammit I hate him.

It didn't work so well for him on MNF in 2009 in the Superdome!!

Wonder how long some of these coaches and players Belicheck would keep. I have always like the way they go about the draft and trading players that still have value while replacing them without missing a lick. Belicheck runs a tight ship. I got no way of not respecting the way that organization is run, top notch in my opionion, but I love my Saints top notch or not.

I like the way Belichick handles the press, no nonsense. There I think he and Payton are similar although I think our Coach is a little friendlier. The fact is that Petey Boy handed that SP to the Pats and made Belichick look like a genius this trip.

Belichek gets players from anywhere and everywhere and they all seem to produce

Brandon Lafell was terrible in Carolina, turns all Pro for NE

His undrafted CB sealed the super bowl win, whilst our second round CB can't even put his pads on without help.

Signing Revis was one of the best moves they've made, they aren't afraid to pull the trigger when they need to, whereas it looks like we sign high profile free agents and force them into situations where they cannot possibly win e.g Jairus Byrd.

Cam Newton was his QB in Carolina, enough said

Also doesn't hurt that BB has an owner that is in bed with Goodell
