2004 Draft revisited
http://www.blackandgold.net/site/mod...e=1&orderdate=
Above I posted a link to a thread about last year's draft. I tried to get one that had many different people offering their opinion. The reason I do this is to ask if, even after one season, anybody's mind has been changed about how good or bad the 2004 draft class was. I keep reading where we need to fire Rick Meuller based on bad drafting and scouting, but I think we did really good last year so this statement confuses me. We ended up getting: Will Smith - played well last year. Possible 2005 starter. Courtney Watson - played well also, started many games in '04. Colby Buckwaldt - Started a few games - a big achievment for 7th rounder. Mike Karney - Started in '04 and will just keep on starting. Probably better than T. Smith in '05. Henderson - sat on the bench, but everyone is interested in seeing what he can do. That's pretty good return for one draft, imho. |

2004 Draft revisited
I don\'t think last years draftess were really ever the problem..or the solution...
We should probably expect the same next year... We are in about the same draft order as last year..and the same guys are heading the charge.... The 2004 draft class did meet my expectations..but..didn\'t exceed them... |

2004 Draft revisited
Will Smith and Mike Karney are solid players with bright futures ahead of them. But let\'s face it, do any of you really believe Watson or Bockwoldt will be any better than the usual suspects in the revolving door, LB-by-committee crap we\'ve been doing since the 90\'s? I mean, the last good LB we had was Mark Fields, for chrissake, and even he\'s not that great. I hope I\'m wrong, \'cause I really like Watson & Bockwoldt, and I realize they played well for rookies. Guess I\'m just not conditioned to expect big things out of Saints LB\'s... And what the heck happened with that Liesle guy? |

2004 Draft revisited
Initially, I wasn\'t that happy about the draft. I didn\'t think Will Smith was a good use of a first rounder, and I didn\'t like the Henderson pick. I feel worse about Henderson now, but I was wrong about Smith. Buckwoldt and Watson were great. Overall, I\'d say the draft turned out better than I originally expected it too. Looking back, my major concern remains what it was going into the year, and the year before, and the year before - will we do enough in FA to justify the BPA draft-style?? Probably not.
