Not exactly another mock.
This isn't exactly a mock so much as it is an assessment for who is within reach by going through each team's current needs to make an educated guess as to what players we could be looking at with pick #13, barring any major trades/ 1st round picks taken away (i'm looking at you, Falcons/Browns.) I don't think there will be a lot of trades in the early part of the draft due to the minimal amount of 1st round graded players. I know its also dumb to do this before free agency, but this place is dead and I would like some draft/FA conversation going, maybe some new perspectives. A lot of these mocks have even up to 5 or 6 of the top pass rushing prospects going before we even select! I don't think this is right simply because offensive lineman/WRs/ and a DB or two will probably be taken before then.
Teams that scare me before we select: Falcons(lets pray roger lays the hammer down on them), Bears, Giants, and Vikings. They all have very similar needs to us, and whoever falls from the top 6 will fall into their laps, not ours. So we better hope we either get Justin Houston in FA, or these teams decide they would rather get their pass rushers in FA. Jeeze, do you see how much trouble a pride win has cost us? Buccaneers- they're most likely going QB here, if they stay. They're saying Jameis Winston is probably the most complete QB in the draft, I dont know if I can see them going for Mariota who will probably take more time to develop. 1. Winston Titans-This team needs interior pressure so Leonard Williams makes a lot of sense, I don't think they'll give up on Mettenberger, but it wouldn't surprise me if they want Mariota. 2. Leonard Williams/Mariota Jaguars- The Jaguars need front 7 help, offensive weapons, and secondary. The only top 5 talent in this draft is the pass rush players. They could probably go Amari Cooper here, but they probably wont. I see a bigger DE here so probably Shane Ray/ Randy Gregory. Beasley could project as a 4-3 LB. He's a Von Miller clone in my eyes. So he's definitely a possibility. I say Randy Gregory here. 3.Randy Gregory/ Leonard Williams Raiders- This team is probably the most unpredictable in this spot, a lot of their team was on 1 year FA contracts. Cooper is the logical choice here to give Derek Carr a weapon. 4. Amari Cooper/ Randy Gregory Redskins- I don't see how other mock drafts don't see the glaring hole at lineman for this team. They went through 2-3 QBs, they definitely could use a lineman like La'El Collins. Especially since Jay Gruden is offensive minded. 5. La'El Collins/ Shane Ray Jets- Mariota seems to be a common pick here, if Tennessee takes him then i say Amari Cooper. They could take a defensive player considering Todd Bowles was a Def. Coordinator. They need play makers though. 6. Mariota/Amari Cooper Bears- Bears could use interior pressure or a safety 7. Danny Shelton/ Landon Collins Falcons- (stripped of their 1st round pick) jk. I See Dante Fowler or Shane Ray here unless they get someone like Justin Houston or Worilds in FA. 8. Shane Ray/ Dante Fowler Giants- the Giants want to get back into the playoffs but they can't do it with Eli on his back or no pressure on opposing QBs. I'd say Brandon Scherff. 9. Brandon scherff/La'El Collins Rams- They need help in the secondary. I like Trae Waynes for this team. Their front 7 is too gnarly for a pass rusher. 10. Trae Waynes/ Brandon Scherff Vikings- Teddy needs weapons and protection. 11. Kevin White/ Dj Humphries Browns- I see Devante Parker or Malcolm Brown here. 12. Devante Parker/ Malcolm Brown Saints- That leaves us with the option of Vic Beasley, Bud Dupree, Dante Fowler, Malcolm Brown, Danny Shelton, or Trae Waynes, which one of them will fall. It is unlikely we have the option someone like La'El Collins or Brandon Scherff, lineman always get drafted in the top 10 and i think they are the two best. However if things go right we even have the potential of landing Shane Ray. We will most likely get a pass rusher in this draft, and I really hope its Vic Beasley, he has insane strength, a great first step, and seems to be a versatile 3-4 LB. |

I have been slow warming to Beasley . Pure pass rusher. Showed well at the combine.

Buccaneers- Winston? I still can not see Lovie taking this kid. Winston is just not the type of player i see Lovie wanting to deal with. i just see this as a marriage with quickie divorce written all over it. Lovie is to old school. besides i have a bet with a buddy in Cleveland that Winston and Johnny not so much Football will be opening training camp for the brownies in 2016
Buccaneers- Leonard Williams Saint i like the list. hard choice Vic Beasley, Trae Waynes Danny Shelton Malcolm Brown Bud Dupree is interesting, Dante Fowler i just do not get all the love still Saints- Trae Waynes steps in and by seasons end becomes a lock down #2 CB in the NFL. Season 2 moves to the #1 CB position and Lewis moves to the #2. SJB sees the field for the first time and covers the TE. besides any 34 defense needs 2 solid CB to work |

Re: Not exactly another mock.
I think we'll have good options either way. 13s not the worst spot it could make things easier as we can take the BPA who falls which will probably be a good pass rusher, lineman, or the best corner. I just hope the first 8/12 or so picks go with defense before we choose.

Re: Not exactly another mock.
I must have done a hundred mock drafts on fanspeak.com and no matter what I do, I find that even without trades (too cheap to pay for the upgrades) I've been able to come up with very good drafts. Some are the kind that you just know will never happen like being able to draft Mariota or Winston at 13. Or even Kevin White at 13 and still get a Denzel Perryman a very good CB, OT, C OLB etc., so unless this coaching staff completely blows this draft, we should be able to come up with an A- to a B+ draft this year with 3-4 starters coming from the draft alone. However I'm sure SP can come up with a way of screwing this draft up anyway.
