Edebali has a better motor, heart, effort than Galette and with more reps Kasim passes him on the depth chart if the front office wouldn't have to explain Galette's contract... Damn it, we really missed Foster this season; his role reminds me of a Justin Tuck-type (Tuck's rookie season) that was a great change of pace/rotational pass rusher... Can't agree to rank Byrd our best defender when he can't even play thirteen games or finish the season/postseason; Buffalo fans warned us... Jordan just disappeared way too many times; he just didn't show enough like he did in the away game at Carolina or at Pittsburgh; he could be our best, but something wasn't right... Pound for pound, my money is that Lewis is our best defender.... |
Re: Payton wants to release Galette?
I love Edibali. He hustles. I believe he will develop into a star player. Gallette is a good pass rusher, who is overpaid.

1) Lewis 2) Jordan 3) Byrd 4) Hicks 5) Foster 6) Vaccaro 7) Walker 8) Gallette I consider Bunkley and Hawthorne gone and wish Lofton was. |
Re: Payton wants to release Galette?
I think Lofton, supported in a 3-4 with another inside linebacker and healthy, good nose tackle play will be fine, overpaid, but he'll be fine...
We can't change it all in one draft, free agency period, but the approach seems to contradict itself, like there's two directions... |
Re: Payton wants to release Galette?
I agree about Lofton. He is limited in coverage but if he had a proper NT in front and a competent parter next too him he wouldn't need to try and plug so many holes against the run and could be what he is,a tackle machine. Put him next to Sean Lee,Karlos Dansby,Kiko Alonso or Navorro Bowman and he would look a really good player. Put a true NT in front aswell and he is going to the probowl

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?
Agree on how to use Lofton but teams would find a way to make him cover a TE or WR and there's your mismatch that they can exploit

You bring up a great point. I remember in another post you mentioned 40 times & how in some cases they are useless. Well Curtis Lofton best 40 time at the combine was a 4.79 & 2.73 20 cone drill. This is considered borderline slow for a LB & may be the direct result of why he can't keep up with TE's, speedy RB or WR's ;). In this respect, those combine times & cone drills mean everything for a linebacker. |

I'd rather draft Stephone Anthony now over Perryman based on the combine numbers... Then again, I'd rather see these guys do the drills in pads too... |
Re: Payton wants to release Galette?
Don't let the combine numbers fool you, put in the tape and then tell me who's better?
|
Re: Payton wants to release Galette?
I'm in the Jim Finks camp, draft the bigger guy..

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?
I've pulled back the reigns on TCU's Paul Dawson as well. His numbers were a bit disappointing (4.95, 4.96). For some reason I thought he was faster and I've seen him up close and in person at a few games last season.

I loved LB Rod Davis from USM, who looked like the Ray Lewis of College Football, but his measurables showed he was a 1/2 step slower than desired at the NFL level and never panned out. Tape AND measurables tell the story, but neither give you the complete picture. |
Re: Payton wants to release Galette?
this will happen just a matter of when. 16.2 million against the cap
