Payton wants to release Galette?

According to Jason La Canfora. This guy like stirring the s$%t pot!

Junior Galette - New Orleans Saints - 2015 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports coach Sean Payton has "expressed a desire" to release RE Junior Galette.

The Saints just signed Galette to a four-year, $41.5 million extension in September. He went on to post 10 sacks and three forced fumbles after a 12-sack campaign in 2013. But Galette, 27 next month, got into some hot water with the law after the season, as he was arrested for domestic violence and simple battery before later being accused of sexual assault. Galette is due a fully-guaranteed $12.5 million roster bonus next month that the Saints will have to pay. They'd gain nothing by releasing him. Expect Galette back in NOLA this season.

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

Addition by subtraction...

Don't need any distractions like his...

Will never understand the preemptive motivation to sign him to a contract like that...

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

Better still, trade our No.1 and Galette for Redskins No. 1 and select Vic Beasley...

We get rid of a lockerroom distraction...

Washington gets the pass rusher they need...

Everybody is happy, happy...

Cant see anyone touching him until the Commissar makes a decision on his suspension.

I like your idea on trading to Washington but trade to Washington and trade out of that pick for more picks

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

With 12.5 guaranteed, he's not going anywhere unless he's traded. And because he's owed 12.5 million, it's unlikely he's traded for anything of value. He'll be a Saint... and one with a chip on his shoulder. Hopefully he'll get back to just playing football, keeping his mouth shut, and putting quarterbacks on their tail.

Most people here would agree so I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. I don't hate the guy I just wish he was more mature.

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

Payton's just puffing up his chest like he did towards the end of last season. He's just trying to send a message without actually pressing send.

Actually the team that trades for him wouldn't have to pay that 12.5 million. We would eat that, making Galette very attractive to other teams.

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

Well that makes it even worse for us. Not only are we already in a salary cap pickle, we eat his salary and have to pay someone to take his spot. And if it's a high pick, it's going to cost us more.

Does it depend on when he's traded though or there's just no way of getting out of that roster bonus?

Seahawks traded Harvin to Jets and turned their season around. Dead money in 2015 but they got rid of trouble maker and moved on.

Either he's trying to light a fire under Junior's ass or he's screwing with the media. I hope its a mixture of both

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

Releasing a player that gets 10 sacks a year would not be smart unless you replace him with someone better. JR. is a one trick pony but he is good at it. He does need to shut his pie hole and remember the hard road he had to get where he is now. As a fan I rooted for him to even make the team, I still like the guy. If we get a stud NT on that front line he will have even more sacks under his belt and if he shuts up all will be good.

What it means, I think, is that he's attractive in a trade becasue his salary is low since we eat the huge roster bonus.

Teams may be willing to give us decent compensation for a good pass rusher with a cheap contract.

Just an FYI: Junior's contract shows to be history on Spotrac. I have no idea what that means but that site updates info quickly.

With all that being said, I personally think its a mind game by Payton

A way to show Galette "hey, your not above the team, you may have been successful but the team comes first and you can be let go at any moment by displaying conduct that is detrimental to the team"

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

resign him asap redo the deal and spread out that stupid contract to be more cap friendly.

III. Restructure

Junior Galette

2015 Cap Number: $15.45 M

The biggest cap space can be gained by a very simple maneuver with Junior Galette's contract. Galette is due a $12.5 million roster bonus on the first day of the new league year. By converting that to a signing bonus, the Saints will gain $10 million in cap space. This will add an additional $3 million in cap charges in the final four years of the contract.

Projected Move: Restructure contract

Cap Savings: $10 Million

So we convert Galette's contract to save the 10 million in cap space, then...

Wrap him in a crimson, gold bow to Washington for an exchange of first round picks...

In fact, they can throw in a Round 4 pick being we're picking up the tab for 2015...

They get their Orakpo replacement in a league sack leader with one year free rental, and...

We get a shot at getting some true 3-4 personnel...

The amazing thing about all this is that Hagan, Danno and Jeanpierre actually worked this out together...

Ah, the wonder of what Saints fans can accomplish when working together...

Now, Everybody is happy, happy...

Loomis can just schlep the numbers, we've got the personnel strategy covered here...

Without him I don't see how it could get much worse. It's not like we drop off a cliff. We did that last season. Maybe go from horrible to very horrible...an F is an F, you will be in summer school either way.

1. I am missing the actual quote from Payton. More media speculation
2. and other than the 'this years' teammates are better than 2010' have we seen other evidence of him spouting off in the locker room?

Pretty foolish to want to get rid of our best defensive player...

Gallete is guilty of not keeping good company. If you actually kept up with the reports coming out you'd know the charges and lawsuit is BS. The only thing JR did wrong was buy in to the hype like everyone else.

Or the best if your not being biased. It's not my opinion it's PFFs rating as him being our only elite defensive player last year.

jeanpierre 02-28-2015 10:21 AM

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

Galette's contract is geared toward the sack...

Guess what Galette is focused on in his play?!?

Guess what Galette is not worried about in his play?!?

Our most effective formation is a 4-2-5/Nickel...

He's an undersized, situational 4-3 end at best...

There's several defenders on this roster I'd put ahead of him...

And, no one forced him to post garbage on Twitter and his actions speak of his character...

This team has got rid of more physically talented players for character football players and had success...

It's addition by subtraction...

And as posted already, to pay one season on him to move him and get a younger, faster, versatile dynamic playmaker, it'd be worth it to convert his contract to minimize the cap hit and trade him to a team that likes more dramatic personalities, such as the Redskins...

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

I'd like to see some kind of source for this, to know more, but I'll say this much -- once Payton decides he is done with a player, he is DONE with the player. They become like the invisible man. There's no coming back from that.

blackangold 02-28-2015 12:10 PM

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

If Payton was done with JR he wouldn't have let him play in the last game of the season. JR was injured but needed a few more sacks to get a bonus in his contract and payton let him play the whole game.

This speculation is bull**** just like this thread.

Re: Payton wants to release Galette?

Sounds like SP. Cut your nose off to spite your face. Yeah, lets get rid of our best defensive player. That makes a lot of sense. Also, none of us really knows what happened yet there are a lot of people who can't wait to jump the gun and get rid of our best defensive player all the while trying to re0sign our worst defensive player, Patrick Robinson. Typical Saints kinda moves.

Granted I haven't seen the PFF stats, but I'd much rather take Jordan over Gallette (both are really DEs), since he can actually defend the run. And I'd probably place Lewis above both of them. Furthermore, I'd venture a guess that Byrd might become the player this season, the Saints were hoping to get for last season with Allen on-board.

He is definitely our best pure pass rusher, but I don't think that translates into him being the best defensive player the Saints have.

The thing is Gallette has been a slow learner from the beginning. He works hard and eventually got his football together(sacks anyway). Maybe now he'll mature into a well rounded individual after this adversity.

Yep... The guy was undrafted for a reason. He wasn't all that good. But he had the drive and determination and that's why the coaches as well as us fans loved him. He's started to come into his own on the field and I think his immaturity off the field has taught him some important lessons. I look for him to make big improvements this year on and off the field.

True, 2014 was a bad year for everyone.

I'd rank our top 5 players on defense...
1. Byrd
2. Jordan
3. Lewis
4. Galette
5. Lofton

With Hicks, Vaccaro, JJenkins, Edibali, Foster and Walker as up and coming talented players.
