Yeah, I read that a little while ago. I am kind of surprised they canned the RB coach. Also looks like they will let McCarthy walk. Haz is now giving other teams permission to talk to McCarthy, and also said the Saints will not get into a bidding war for his services. The major shocker is Haz telling Venturi that he gets to keep his job...

..well, if Haslett gets a pass because of the last 4 games of the season, why not Venturi? :broccoli:

Let\'s see - so we may well be entering FA minus a QBs coach, RBs coach, O-line coach, CBs coach, Offensive Quality Control Coach, and Offensive Coordinator? F---ING VENTURI is coming back, as is Haslett and Loomis. We have contract issues with Deuce, Horn, Howard, McKenzie, and Pathon. We will need two tackles, a DT, two LBs, TE, and possibly a few other positions like S, CB, WR. We pick 16th.

Tell me again why winning those last 4 games was so great? 4-12 and I think things are different, don\'t you? Instead, I now predict the 2005 New Orleans Saints (quarter by quarter).

Q1: 2-2
Q2: 1-3
Q3: 2-2
Q4: 3-1

Total: 8 and f---ing 8. Oh yeah - 1 game out of the playoffs.

I won\'t even express my dismay as I told MANY people unless we lose out nothing would change I got the \"No matter what happens, Haslett is gone,\" which turned into \"Well,Haslett may stay but Venturi is definitely gone,\" and now this. Great.

I don\'t understand this decision to keep Venturi.

The reason Haz is still here is beyond me. At this point, I attribute it to Benson\'s irrationality. He didn\'t want to buy out Haz\'s contract or something like that, instead of get a coach who can lead a winning team (as opposed to just an underdog team).

Who knows if losing out would have changed this irrationality of Benson\'s - I don\'t know what evidence could be cited either way.

As I\'ve said before, this is all Benson. Venturi has to be kin or have naked pictures of Benson with a young boy. Name the last coach that didn\'t have Venturi thrust down his throat in New Orleans.

And why does it seem like every coach in the league that gets fired has to play the race card. GD I\'m sick of that $hit. Man the F up and take your walking papers. Not one of them complained when they got the interview/job because of minority hiring. Damn I\'m pissed off.

... what if the reason why the defense played better down the stretch, was because Venturi had time to work with Watson, Colby, McKenzie, Fakhir, and Whitehead as starters (or having some significant playing time), and they are intelligent enough to understand and execute Venturi\'s complex defense schemes? ... That\'s 5 new brains out of 11... then would you want to keep Venturi?

What in his tenure with the saints has he shown you? Why would four good games and 12 bad ones do to prove he can be any better for next year? His teams have proven over and over again that they cant get it done. He should have been the first one to go.

I cannot sit here and think of one single reason or excuse, explanation, or even begin to understand why both Haslett and Venturi are BOTH coming back...

This is a suprise..I was convinced that at the very least, Venturi would have to be gone...HEY BENSON, WE HAD THE WORST DEFENSE THIS TEAM HAS EVER HAD, AND CLOSE TO BEING THE WORST IN NFL HISTORY...excluding the final 4 games...we were punked each and every week..by teams like Arizona? Are you kidding me?

Total lack of responsibility..and a lack effort, the only thing I can personally try to come up with is...This must be some scheme for Benson to save money... and try to get the team to have a top 3 pick when time to sell comes round...

Thank you Mr. Benson ...For yet another year of Mediocrity..if we can even play that good...

Call your team \'\'High Schoolers\'\'..then make a boneheaded move like that?... You, in my opinion, have just thrown in the towel on this team, your team....you bastard

If Minnesota had won like they were supposed to we\'d have made the playoffs. And from what I\'ve seen so far there was a good chance we\'d have advanced, maybe more than one round.
Winning the last 4 games didn\'t save Venturi\'s job, stupidity by a clueless owner and a gutless front office are the reasons Venturi is back.

If finishing dead fricking last in defense isn\'t enough to get Venturi fired, do you think finishing 4-12 would have? I have no reason to believe it would.

If IFs were fifths we\'d all be drunk. Bottom line - Minnesota didn\'t win, the Saints didn\'t make the playoffs, and thus couldn\'t advance. Based on their history to expect fate to be on their side seems pretty unrealistic.

As for 4-12, yes, I think that forces Benson\'s hand. 8-8 with a 4-0 finish is respectable. Nobody else around the league seems to have the memory that some of us do. Most Saints fans seem to have particularly short memories. Thus, 4 straight losses to end 4-12 makes the Saints a laughing stock and forces Benson\'s hand, IMO. 8-8 with 4 straight wins give the Marketing department just what they need to build hype for next year, and an out to suggest to our nimrod fans that we actually got jipped.

So you wanna play the IF card on me, when you are the one assuming IF we finished 4-12 things would be better?
Yea, right...
IF Benson fires Haslett
IF Benson doesn\'t promote Venturi to HC
IF Benson doesn\'t promote McCarthy to HC
IF Benson hires a quality GM
IF Benson hires a new proven HC
IF Benson doesn\'t sell the team to LA
IF Benson hires a good talent scout
IF the new guys decide to get serious in free agency
IF the new guys don\'t draft worse than currently do.
IF we don\'t go through 3 years of 4-12 while we rebuild.

Yea, and IF a frog had wings he wouldn\'t bump his asss everytime he tried to fly.

I\'ll take my Saints wins whenever I can get them. The last 4 games were a lot more enjoyable than the 1st 12. And I know you too were pulling for them, not against them. Don\'t make me find that statement. ;)

You\'re right, it doesn\'t mean better, but it does mean change. I\'ll take the risk of being worse for the chance to no longer be mired in 8-8 underacheiving mediocrity. Nothing great is ever acheived without risk. I was asking for change, not necessarily an overnight solution. I do think this - if the Saints had tanked, Benson would have been real hard pressed to keep any of the coaches, let alone promote them. Just my opinion....

And entering 2005 with Venturi is about as risky as it gets.
I did read recently he may be re-assigned and a new DC may come in. He may already be on the staff. There was a rumor that Pease or Haslet took over the defense late in the season.

Right now, I\'ll take anybody but Venturi. I still find it disturbing that most of the talk by fans and media is about changes to the offensive staff.

Then why the hell did the great genius Haslett allow the offense to be totally changed in the offseason? Sending Deuce and LeCharles and Joe to the pro bowl wasn\'t enough? And why didn\'t he listen when Deuce repeatedly said the offense was crap? Seems like this staff has a history of doing thing bass ackwards. So of course I am with Who, 4-12 would have cleaned the cupboards most likely. So you think after calling them a high school team losing 4 MORE GAMES would have allowed Haslett to keep his job? Not bloody likely.

How does that relate to my comment about addressing the offense when we should be addressing defense?

You can pull for them to lose all you want. But show me a guy who wants to lose and I\'ll show you a bloody loser!

It relates because you said fans and the media are talking about changing offensive coaches. Well, nothing was wrong with the offense last year(besides fumbles) and they changed it. Seems like the MO of the team to totally dance around priorities and \"sure up\" things that don\'t need fixing. That\'s how it relates.

Show me a guy that hopes for meaningless wins that keeps the status quo, and i\'ll show you a guy satisfied with mediocrity. I guess it was a bad idea for the Bengals to get so bad ownership was forced to make a move to change the atmosphere of the team. I guess all those high first round draft picks have doomed the Chargers. Look at the Niners and Titans, struggled to keep mediocre to good teams on the field, now both in cap hell. Yeah, let\'s go for that.

Yeah, and time after time after time, they still sucked. Yep, lets ignore the fact that changes and high draft picks don\'t always lead to being better. I want to see my team win, not lose. I don\'t give a flipping crap about picking 6th or 16th. Picking late never hurt the Pats, or Eagles.
Quote:

Yea, one good year out of what, the last 10? Yea, looks like a smashing success to me. I guess if you want 9 bad years to be able to get that one good year, and 1 and out in the playoffs then thats a good xample. I guess the Charger fans will want to finish 3-13 next year so they can get that extra edge to win again?
Quote:

And you think just cause we finish 4-12 that suddenly we\'re gonna start drafting right? That Benson will actually pick a good coach and a good GM? Hell he fired a halfway decent one and replaced him with a worse one. Yea, lets finish 4-12, and still pick the Jonathan Sullivans and the Stinchcombs and Hendersons and Hasletts and Venturis. Yeah, that sounds like a winner.

\"C\'mon guys, lets all go to the Saints game this week, and pull for them to lose! YeeeHaaaaw! Boy its great being a Saints fan. Now remember fellas, when we do something good, BOO as loud as you can. When the other team does something good, CHEER as loud as you can.\"

You do realize Danno the points you are belittling are points that were made when the team was 4-8. Now make me understand how 4-8 = winner and I will fall into line with your thinking. Oh by the way, we have made the playoffs once in the last what 12-13 years? Good call. I see how mediocre has helped us avoid the trap that is the NFL playoffs. Getting in is overrated right? The point is the Chargers were WORSE than us for many years and now they are better and were in the playoffs in a much tougher conference. The point ids the Bengals have been WORSE than us for many MANY years and when they hit rock bottom and got a new coach, suddenly they are .500 just like us in a tougher conference. Yeah I wanna accept that. Let\'s keep winning half our games and hope the rest of the NFC stays terrible and almost by the fluke of the century let\'s us get into the playoffs. Sound strategy.

So explain to me what our record was again after winning 4 in a row? Mediocre. And now we have discussions of not only Haslett staying AND getting an extension, Venturi is staying. Well, actually, the Eagles sucked and that\'s how they got McNabb and Corey Simon. The Pats sucked and that\'s how they got Bledsoe. Then they BOTH brought in new coaches after losing and look where they are. Kinda makes my point. Got bad to be good. Thanks.

aah,, but you either didn\'t read my posts, or you are debating the wrong argument with me...

the first if I used wasn\'t meant as \" if x, then y\"... it wasn\'t meant as a coulda, woulda, shoulda, or a question of cause and effect... it was meant as a question of why not use the same logic for Venturi that is being used for Haslett...

The second if again, wasn\'t meant as \" if x, then y\"... it was \" maybe x because of y\"... speculating on why something happened, as in why the defense seemed to play better the last 4 games of the season, and not what would\'ve happened if something else had occurred, which is what you speculated with \"if the Vikings had won then the Saints would\'ve gone to the playoffs\"...

...big difference ...

... it is also appropiate to point out my third post when I mentioned that I was playing devil\'s advocate and I want everyone, including the waterbots, gone...

... the point is, I don\'t think about the \"what would\'ve happened\"... I\'m more the \"what\'s going to happen/what happened\" type of person...

We gained boatloads by winning the last 4 games. You could make an arguement for momentum or confidence that the players will carry into next season. With that confidence, you could say some players will stay on board, or at least the Saints look more appealing to FA\'s by finishing strong.

Not to mention that little streak MAY have been enough to keep the Saints hanging around New Orleans. I got to agree with Danno on this one. I personally would take a 4 game winning streak to close the season even if that meant we finished 4-12!

I flirted with the idea of rooting against the Saints one time...this year vs OAK. By the end of the pregame show, I realized that even though I wanted a new coaching staff, I could never root against the Saints. I will take a win any day of the week over throwing a game for a personnel change.

Whodi!!

My question is this: Why are we having the co0nversation at all? The problem stems from the fact that we have a dud as a GM and a dud as a DPP. This has translated to poor performance on the field due to poor coaching, team leadership and game planning. Put Venturi in a job as a teacher and let him do his thing. I\'d venture to say he needs to replace Winston Moss. Get Mike Singletary here as DC and find someone who understands the word \"random\" as OC.

Another thing that needs to be done and quickly is to get into Leon\'s face, and scream the fact that he is not good, let alone great and to shut the hell up NOW!!! That\'s going to take someone with a pair to do it. But it needs to be done.

Stop coddling these people.
