Re: Pierre Thomas released...
He's been injury plague the last couple years (I know since I had him on my fantasy team and it killed me) still think it was a shady move that could of been avoided by trimming some dead fat on defense

A few days ago: Sean Payton states lack of player leadership was an issue in 2014
Today: Release and look to trade the leaders we have |

I clearly remember reading about a rift in the locker room last year that involved PT, Jimmy Graham, Galette and now maybe I'm thinking Lofton too...? |
Re: Pierre Thomas released...
Well Gallette has shown time and time again he had no business being a captain, he couldn't keep his mouth shut on twitter and the legal BS could of been the last straw with Payton. I really hope they find a way to move on from him and I like Gallette (the player).

Watch Atlanta Swoop him up.

Re: Pierre Thomas released...
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pats take him if they dont re-sign Vereen

True, but in effect we got rid of Sproles for LB Ronald Powell (the man drafted with the 5th rounder from the Eagles). Something tells me that Sproles had more value to the team... As for PT, he was not ran into the ground with lots of touches so I think he had more left in the tank than your typical 30 year old RB. He knew the system, was a good blocker, a good runner, and a master of the screen pass. Dude gave it 110% on the field at ALL TIMES. I hate to see a guy who was so always who did everything they asked him to. I would argue he was NOT used enough... If this ends up with us getting a good young back, then whatever. If this $$ goes to resigning Mark Ingram then I have to question what they're smoking. Ingram is not worth a big paycheck and stays hurt too much... |
Re: Pierre Thomas released...
So many good memories of PT, mostly him getting our team going after sluggish starts.
Super bowl 44, the colts could not tackle PT with one player, at one point in the first half 3 players hit him and managed to stay on his feet for another 8 yards afterwards. 2011 NFCCG vs lions - Lions pretty much whooped us the entire first quarter until we started throwing screens to PT, who once again bounced off every tackler the lions could throw at him. One screen play looked like it would lose 3 yards but PT dodged 5 players and got 15 yards from it. |

Pierre, Thank You for everything. You will be missed.

If we had gotten 2 1st rounders for Sproles and both ended up being busts, was it a bad deal to get 2 1st round picks for him? |
Re: Pierre Thomas released...
That man has been killing the Falcons for years. Glad he's gone :P

Re: Pierre Thomas released...
Obviously we plan to sign or draft a back, because PT caught like 45 passes last year with almost half of those being for first downs. PT was cheap and he produced when needed so why cut him. I bet the Saints bring in a Reggie Bush type of 3rd down back. I think we'll have Ingram and Robinson as our thumpers and Payton's got his eyes on one or more in the draft who could all be significant upgrades as a 3rd down back. Probably a small back with blazing speed and great hands. I am convinced this will happen because as of now we still need PT on 3rd down. Who fits this description in this years draft? And can we get him in RD 2,3 or 4?

Re: Pierre Thomas released...
So we dumped PT to throw more coin Ingram's way. BAH!!!
IF he can stay healthy, and IF he doesn't have the typical post-contract letdown, maybe I'll eat crow and say this was for the best. Right now I feeling like we sold our late 90s model sportscar for a 5 year old Prius... |

Re: Pierre Thomas released...
Twelve Saints running backs have 500 or more career rushing attempts.
Pierre Thomas’s average per attempt, 4.6 yards, is a third of a yard better than anybody else on that list. Pierre Thomas fumbled seven times in 818 rushing attempts. Rueben Mayes fumbled 14 times in 837 attempts. Chuck Muncie fumbled 25 times in 788 attempts. Pierre fumbled less often than any other New Orleans running back. Ever. Vive la Pierre | B&G |

Re: Pierre Thomas released...
If it were ONLY a what have you done for me lately thing, Ingram would have been sacking groceries somewhere a couple of years ago.
Thomas produced when he saw the field. Problem was coach was saving him for SOMETHING - what exactly I'm not sure, maybe carrying his luggage - so naturally Ingram's touches and yards went up. Don't get me wrong - I'd love to see Mark get 1200 yards and a dozen TDs next year but it ain't happening. We'll be lucky if he's not on IR by game 6, or worse yet - active and averaging 2 yards and a cloud of dust like he has his entire career (sans 2014). |
