Re: Mark Ingram Re-signs with Saints

i am ok with it. the money is ok.

injury history still my #1 concern and i do not see him as a featured back because of it. 4 mill a year for a two down back that will play 60% of downs if we are really lucky.

Robinson i am not banking on, Cadet and the others i have little faith in

this committee at RB needs 1 or 2 pieces still

Jeremy Langford or David Johnson please.

I'm concerned with the past injuries as well, but another way to look at it is that he hasn't got a lot of wear yet because he's been sidelined due to injuries. There's been some weird injuries there like the turf toe ones, so I hope those are in the past.

Another concern is that Ingram didn't come alive until his contract year, but the contract seems fair for both sides.

Both Brees and Ingram would benefit from those moves.

Team and player have 'agreed', but has the deal been signed? Are they waiting until Tuesday bc of the cap?

Hopefully this season he'll keep up the production.

There's no reason it shouldn't. I think changing over to ZBS really helped him.

It was his contract year and he wanted a raise, BFD. Look for his past production to come back

I'm on the fence with this one, he probably is the best choice out there and I should be excited with this. But I think I'm just waiting to hear good news for the defense.

Dude, you're so wrong.

Ingram was drafted because Payton decided to implement the ZBS - the same scheme Ingram ran behind on the way to a Heisman trophy.

Ingram's success last year was due in part to two things:
1) Health
2) Carries

Health is obvious but his carries were 226. His previous high was 156...

The guy worked hard, stayed focused and was given the opportunity to have a good season. And he produced. To the tune of 4.3 yds per carry.

Demarco Murray, the NFL's leading rusher, was 4.7ypc

Just imagine what Ingram can do with a HEALTHY offensive line... Guess we'll find out in 2015!

What healthy offensive line, only Armstead is under 30

Armstead, Goodwin and Evans were hurt last year. Evans had surgery and should be healthy heading into TC.

He wasn't utilized properly until his contract year. That was the first chance he had to be a primary ball carrier.

Like I said. Imagine what he COULD do with a healthy line.

Danno's right. Age and injuries caught up to our line.

I can't imagine we don't restructure Evans then upgrade our Center and Guard positions. Imagine Armstead, Sherff, Lelito, Evans, Streif.

Knock, knock...

Who's there?

1,200 yard season.

This Ingram deal looks better by the minute.

Eagles signed Frank Gore. 5mil annually.

Re: Mark Ingram Re-signs with Saints

I'm an Alabama fan and was excited when we drafted Ingram. I lost interest fast because he was always unavailable. I don't think Payton likes him and was shocked to see us pigeon hole ourselves again this year. In my opinion he's not a great locker room guy and I don't think he's well liked by his team mates. I think he's a man who is all about himself.jmho His TD celebrations and has first down celebrations are idiotic and he gets flagged for it. That doesn't endear him to Payton or me.

He's also no good with the screen game which Payton loves and his blitz assignment pick ups still look shaky.

Just produce Bama!!!

I don't think he's ever been flagged for a celebration. I think he threw the ball in frustration once and got flagged but that was it. His teammates seem pretty damn thrilled to have him back judging by the reaction I've seen. I don't know man, I just don't see what you're seeing.

I didn't get that one either, Chris. All I have ever seen a demonstrative was his disappointment in himself.

Maybe it's just me and I had my sights set too high for him. But I swear in my mind I remember him doing stupid stuff to get penalties.

Really? Is Ingram switching to ILB or cover corner?

I like the kid. He certainly brings some grit to the running game.

But unless the Saints gets some serious upgrades and consistent play on the defense, there isn't going to be a huge leap in progress.

I think Lelito can be that center. In every game he entered last year, the offense got better IMHO.

After the Byrd deal last year, might it be out of the question to reach towards someone like Mike Iupati?

You aren't, he's a liability in pass coverage. When pressure wasn't getting to Drew up the middle last season, it was coming from the right side.

Zach is and always was one of the best backup swing OT in the NFL. that is were he belongs. he is yet another player that SP and the saints origination has played cute with on the OL. he is an old school RT that does not fit into todays NFL as a starter.

Difference between a LDE and RDE? none really any more when you are talking the better defenses in the NFL. domino effect of a pass happy NFL. waiting for a 8 point line at the 40 next. just like the manufactured points in NBA with the 3 point line. still the stupidest thing i have ever seen. oppsss back on topic

starting RT have to be just as athletic as LT in book. that is just the way it is now. enter Jack Fisher my favorite target for RT in the draft. RT or LT does not matter. polished and ready to go right out of the box. then move Zach back to his proper role. swing tackle back up and run blocking specialist in jumbo sets

then do what you want with Harris. groom him more cut him whatever. just do not let him be first man off the bench.

there is Nick Becton who is an interesting project also on the roster

Strief is consistently rated as one of the best pass blocking RT's in the league. Any pressure that came from the right side last season probably was due to Jahri Evans trying to play through a torn wrist ligament.

He's one of the better RTs in the entire league and our best lineman for two or three years running.

Goes to show you how once a player is labeled a certain way, how hard it is to shake it no matter what they do. It's just the way it is... in football or in life.

I hope we didnt waste much on him. He sucked for 3 years. Had one good year and now we sign him. We have been able to pick RB up off the street consistantly throughout the Payton era. Just hope the money was well spent and he keeps producing like he did last year.

It's not exactly magic. It's releasing players and restructuring contracts for players he over-paid in the first place, to make room to re-sign average players like Ingram. He had a nice season, for him. That isn't saying much. The running game was just as effective spreading the touches between multiple backs. He got the bulk of the carries this time, but the team as a whole did not benefit anything extra for it.

Not saying that's his fault, but I am saying that we didn't need Ingram as much as we need improved pass blocking, and obviously a better defense. In short, I don't really care that we re-signed Ingram. It's not an exorbitant amount of money, it just feels kind of pointless.

Just your opinion or do you have anything to back that statement up?

I haven't read anything stating Streif is that poor in run or pass protection.
