Saints, Cardinals in play for Sean Weatherspoon | ProFootballTalk
Neeeeaaaauuuxxxxxx!!! Neaux more broken old Falcons... WTF?!? Please just let this be us driving up the price... |
Re: PFT: Saints, Cardinals In Play For Sean Weatherspoon
Have to disagree. He's a great talent but needs to stay healthy.
|
Re: PFT: Saints, Cardinals In Play For Sean Weatherspoon
Would be odd having him here considering the words he had on social media for some of our players.
However, when healthy he is a top ILB that can hang in coverage. He could be a good pick-up for us but it needs to be at the right price because of the injury history. |
Re: PFT: Saints, Cardinals In Play For Sean Weatherspoon
Good player.

Re: PFT: Saints, Cardinals In Play For Sean Weatherspoon
Surly he's going to be cheap considering injuries. I rate him highly but injuries are a massive concern.

I said on another thread i really rate Weatherspoon but his injury history is a massive red flag for me. Im not against it on a cheap prove it deal

Re: Saints Want Weatherspoon
He's a freak athlete. He stands out when he's on the field and has great speed. I think we should go back to a 4-3 if we sign him. It puts Lofton back at his natural MLB spot. Weatherspoon can be the strong side backer while Haraylson and Hawthorne rotate on the weakside (or hopefully we upgrade there.) Moves Junior back to his natural DE spot, and makes Cam Jordan disposable because he's a 3-4 DE. But we'll see.

Re: Saints Want Weatherspoon
Players get hurt. It's part of the game. That being said, they don't all get hurt throughout their entire careers. Saying someone is injury prone is a misconception. Some players are not as lucky as others for different reasons. Freak accidents or playing so all out and reckless that they hurt themselves. It takes a player a few seasons to acclimate themselves to the NFL. They come in trying to impress and play too reckless and get hurt. Sometimes those players are the playmakers everyone is looking for but because they haven't matured yet, get hurt in their first couple years. Could be because they don't get enough rest because they're out partying with their new found riches, some get hurt because they don't eat the right things to help their bodies regenerate and heal. I just don't necessarily think someone is just predisposed to injury. I also don't think one player is more apt to get injured than another player. If Spoon was hurt earlier in his career then the odds would seem to be in his favor to not be injured for several years. I'd be in favor of giving Spoon a 2 year contract and see how it goes with if they're worried about it have an injury clause. The guy's obviously got playmaker talent. I'd say give him a shot.

Re: Saints Want Weatherspoon
I wouldnt be against the change back to a 4-3 though im not sure Galette is a great DE in that scheme, I did read somebody suggesting using Galette as both a LB and DE similar to how the Broncos use Von Miller(i know he is 10x the player).
Good bit here on the Broncos base defenses of a couple of years back Denver D: Broncos Big Men and the front 7 - Mile High Report This is the same way Dennis Allen played the Broncos as DC. Dont think it gets done this year though |

There has been a player on a team in our league here that him and med both has hated each other, getting into it on the field, social media etc. Now all of a sudden we play for the same team and we just had to make it a blank page and start over. |
Re: PFT: Saints, Cardinals In Play For Sean Weatherspoon
Larry Holder mentioned that Mason Foster might be on the shortlist. Says the Saints liked him in the 2011 draft
|
Re: PFT: Saints, Cardinals In Play For Sean Weatherspoon
This rumor has the Falcons fan all up in a rage so that's funny anyways.

I would still take Perryman in the draft. Nothing specacular just as solid as they come.

has any great LB's (or any player) come back from an Achilles tendon tear? That's a tough injury.

look at his stats from 2013 Mason Foster - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 2015 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com now look at Weatherspoon Sean Weatherspoon - Atlanta Falcons - 2015 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com i would roll with Foster |
Re: PFT: Saints, Cardinals In Play For Sean Weatherspoon
Isn't it funny that all these LB's we are supposedly interested in, we liked in the draft but didn't get any of them?
|
Re: PFT: Saints, Cardinals In Play For Sean Weatherspoon
He's freaking good if healthy, and still young. I just worry because usually when a player starts down that many injuries there is no coming back. Heart is there, but body gives out.
The one person I have always regretted never seeing play for the Saints (cause he had moments of brilliance) was Cie Grant. |

Re: PFT: Saints, Cardinals In Play For Sean Weatherspoon
Personally, I loved the dude coming out of college. Really wanted us to draft him, really pissed me off that the clowns got him first. I would not be opposed to it if we finally got him. Yes the injuries are worrisome, but even acl tears are not the career threatening things they once were. Huge strides have been made in just the last few years in how they repair and treat them. As for his twitter rant or whatever the hell it was, I agree with previous posters in that ours is one of the most heated rivalries in sports, so it's to be expected. Especially considering that the abomination that is social media makes it entirely too easy for people to get themselves into trouble.. If we can get him at a reasonable price, I'm sold.

When healthy, Witherspoon is a baller but do we really need another Victor Butler type player (past injury concerns) on the roster? He has played roughly 7 games in 2 years.
Mason Foster is someone I would carefully target. |
