Re: Keenan Lewis demands Saints guarantee contract
IDK, in the apparent mood the Saints FO is in, I would think some of the guys would just keep it to themselves ... I understand he's passionate, he's upset his buddies are being let go, feels like "he's next" and wants some reassurance of his value to the team ... instead of going on Twitter (Instagram or wherever-the-heck) to vent like some junior-high schoolgirl, man-up and assume a leadership role left vacant on the team, for crissake, ... what is it with these guys? Is that how you conduct business? Social media will be the end of civilization, IMO. .

Re: Keenan Lewis demands Saints guarantee contract
WOW, there are a lot of CBs on the market to be demanding against a management that has shown no one is safe. Keenan was great for us last year, but on a defense that didn't have too many positives in the first place.
But hey, not all in for the Saints or trusting your coach, see you! |

Re: Keenan Lewis demands Saints guarantee contract
The most frustrating thing in sports. The complete lack of understanding of what a contract is, or the outright disregard and disrespect for what it is. When I hear someone whine "I want more security", it makes me laugh. There is nothing more secure than a contract. You are agreeing to a certain set of financial guidelines, meaning even if you are released you know the exact amount that is guaranteed. There is nothing else like a contract.
So you have that security to begin with, but then to ask for more before your contract is up? I'm all for free market, and people trying to get what they can get (though I think professional sports have gotten out of hand in the massive overvaluing of players), but wait till your contract is up, unless your employer actually offers you a better deal first. But players and even many coaches fail to recognize the spirit of a contract, and they want to break the agreement and get something extra. Now, if you want to sit there and say "well I have outplayed my expectations and I don't feel it's a fair deal anymore" (which is precisely the argument given all the time), and you want to ask for a restructure... I still think you should wait till your contract is up before worrying about the next one, but at least asking for a raise is better than threatening to hold out. You agreed to a deal. If you think you outplayed that deal, then maybe you should have had more confidence in your ability before signing the contract in the first place. Don't be a big baby because you think you deserve this or that, and you're friends are getting traded. It's football, it's a business, same as it was when he decided to leave the Steelers to come to us. Every team and player is looking out for what's best for them, even if we don't always agree with the decisions. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Don't be fooled. Teams protect themselves against player contracts as much as possible too.
Just because you hear someone signed a $30M contract doesn't mean they'll receive it. |

Keenan saying he doesn't trust the Saints or feel secure right now is plain stupid. He's going to get all of his guaranteed money, and even if we for some reason wanted to trade him, then he'll make his money elsewhere. He has no reason to be worried. We're trying to build a better defense, in case he missed that part, which means if he keeps performing he'll be here. Jimmy was traded because he was an expensive luxury. We don't have luxuries on defense. |

Re: Keenan Lewis demands Saints guarantee contract
In general i do have some sympathy with players wanting to know were they are long term. There are not many job were you sign to live and work in one city for x amount of year and the company then says we are transferring you all the way across country. If you have move to be closer to home and put your kids in school and bought a house the last thing you need is getting told you are moving thousands of miles away

Re: Keenan Lewis demands Saints guarantee contract
I'm feeling for Keenan. He played his heart out last season. Bad knee and all and would not back down.
Now we're here not giving him any love. If I was Keenan playing and putting the effort like he did, I would want some security as well. It's not like hes asking for more money. |

Better a year early than a year late. His skinny body is starting to break down. It is what it is.
