PFW, TWWHI, Venturi re-assigned?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Why can\'t we go after a coach from a team that has shown it can play defense? How about the Ravens? I believe Mike Singletary is the linebackers coach there, and I bet he\'d want to advance to a DC ...

I believe Mike Singletary is the linebackers coach there, and I bet he\'d want to advance to a DC position. Linebacker is our weak spot on defense, we have a few(depending on the draft) young linebackers that could use the tutelage of one of the game\'s all time best MLBs.

He wasnt there for the 4th and 26 fiasco. He has been a coordinator before and had success, but with the job done this season with the packers I dont see much improvement with this hire.
... I stand corrected... he wasn\'t there for 4th and 26...

..however, that so-called \"success\" at coordinator, I don\'t know about that.. I believe this is the Packers is the first team that is brother is not the head coach... just because he was given the reins of an already excellent Chiefs defense for one year doesn\'t quite make him successful...

..now, he may be the best thing since Buddy Ryan, I don\'t know... but what not go with someone already established? There are a few coaches out there that I can think of before I think of an obscure DB coach....

Well, I guess they\'re trying to prove that ANYONE is truly better than Venturi.

Schottenheimer was the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator in 1999, when...
they sucked! Great - a coach from the 2nd worst defense over the last 3 season. Huge upgrade! Can we sign the Bears OC too?

Having a team break records for scoring touchdowns shouldn\'t be a reason for even looking at this guy..Let me explain...

I realize Defenses that score points is good..But..It CANNOT be a product of the defensive Coordinators plan...

He designs plays to stop Offenses...If a Quarterback throws a pass...And the Defender tips, swats..or picks it off..Thats the thing that was suppose to happen..And anything after the play..is simply a matter of having the personal talent to make a play..and possibly score...

I would much rather see a candidate that has consitently made schemes that stop other teams Offenses, and forced them into third downs ..consitently...If a player scores..thats his good play..not a product of design...just luck...

New Orleans

The Saints featured the worst overall defense, at least from a statistical standpoint, in the league in 2004, but we’re told that likely won’t lead to defensive coordinator Rick Venturi being fired. Instead, there is speculation that head coach Jim Haslett will simply reassign Venturi from defensive coordinator to position coach, because Haslett still trusts Venturi’s judgment as a coach and believes Venturi to be one of the best teachers in the NFL. There also has been talk that Venturi’s replacement — if a change is made — could be Packers DB coach Kurt Schottenheimer. Schottenheimer was the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator in 1999, when the defense set a team record for defensive touchdowns. Haslett would like to see his defense make more big plays next season, and Schottenheimer may be the answer.

Well if Venturi and Haz must stay, this is pretty good news. At least we may bring in a real DC. Of couse I don\'t know much about Schottenheimer, but he\'s gotta be an upgrade over Venturi, right?
The Peanut vendor is an upgrade
