this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Anyone know how we stand in regards to salary cap and in relation to the other teams? I read on PFW that TEN was in the worst shape (I think), but I couldn't find the actual numbers for the teams....

Salary Cap
I believe we are 11 million under the current cap. I think the cap goes up about 5 million, so we should be about 16 million under.

11 million? That\'s good right? We should be able to get some quality help in here this year. |

Well I guess it depends on what we give Horn and McAllister when we resign them. Im assuming they will get both deals done this offseason. Whether or not they sign Howard to a franchise tag or a long term deal will also affect this. Hopefully we can get a couple of impact players in here with the remaining amount.

I don\'t think 2004 #\'s apply. \'cause player salary\'s change. For example Joe Horn was \'cap friendly\' this year, but we probably need to restructure his salary for next year cause his cap number is significantly increased.
For all I know, with bonus\'s and incentives reached this year, could we be over the cap? |

For the THIRD year in a row the Saints enter FA in the TOP FIVE in $$$ available under the cap. For the FOURTH year in a row I\'d bet anyone they\'ll do virtually NOTHING with it. Want to bet that they don\'t sign a top tier LB, DT, or T with it? Anyone? Bueller?

It\'s hard to determine exactly where we stand ...Duece will have to be signed..and he will want a signing bonus...Bare Minimum..I\'m guessing..4 million?..top shouldn\'t be more than 6-8 million? does that sound about right?
If we restructure Horn\'s contract..is there a possibility of him getting some sort of bonus as well?..or an Incentive of some kind? If we could get out from under Sullivan\'s contract..we would be in great shape...although it would be hard for any team to pay him what he wants, with the way he behaves..I think we are stuck with him for the long haul... However...even with all the possible scenarios..we still look a whole heck of a lot better as far as the cap situation goes than any other team... We might be the only team available to pay some of the Top Shelf free agents the kind of money they are going to want..without having to release someone to free up room.. |

I know from reading around shadow that Dallas and San Diego are gonna have buttloads of cap money this off-season, way more than us. We may be in a bidding war with Dallas for a few of the same free agents, if we pursue any ones anyone else would want.

Yeah..However..Brees is going to want..and he will get..a big time contract, And they have given Marty a two year extension..I\'m unsure of the details on that one though, I have heard as well though that they will be in good shape..didn\'t they sign Tomlinson to a ..60 million 6 year deal?..I think it was at the start of this year..I\'m not sure...
And..I found this story on the state of the Boys...It doesn\'t talk about cap room..but rather about how many new coaches he is going to need..after firing at least two..and indicates that more firing..or player releases will be sure to take place...but...it\'s just heresy as of now... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/footb...overhaul_x.htm [Edited on 18/1/2005 by shadowdrinker] |
