Re: Saints in the mix for CJ Spiller

If we had more cap then Spiller at 3ml ok but when we had Thomas on on around 2ml who though had a few injuries is less prone than Spiller its a strange move.

Re: Saints in the mix for CJ Spiller

This organization is pretty good at finding low-cost young runningbacks like PT, Ivory, Robinson. Keep up that tradition and let the team find someone late in the draft or rookie free agency. All we really need is a Shane Vereen type of player. I'm also hoping we could possibly bring back PT at a reduced rate if no one snaps him up.

Re: Saints in the mix for CJ Spiller

CJ Spiller would be the only RB on our team who ran for 1,000 yards. And he averages 5.0 yards per carry. And he's got speed at the position which we lack after losing Sproles and Bush. He's better then Pierre. I don't like him more then Pierre, but we've got to take our hearts out of all this.

Where are we on this randomness?

Sproles also has been hurt. I think CJ's problem was playing for the bills.

All quiet on this front so far.

And leave it up to Vaccaro to tweet it's official before it's actually official! lol

I could live with Spiller at a 4yr $13.8M with $8.5M in guaranteed money.

Long visit RT @nick_underhill: C.J. Spiller update: I'm told his visit is still ongoing.

Re: Saints in the mix for CJ Spiller

RB's are a dime a dozen. A Sproles type is absolutely out there, not only is he out there, he likely won't get drafted! I so hope we do not waste money on a RB. We can get this player for next to nothing. Look around, nobody wants this style of RB.

Re: Saints in the mix for CJ Spiller

You know Redskins signed Terrance Knighton. 1 year 4mil contract. Meanwhile we are trying to waste money on RB made of glass.

Re: Saints in the mix for CJ Spiller

I think spiller is a great weapon but we still have other needs that need to be addressed. Plus I want ingram to be "the" back on our team. None of that nonsense where we have 3 guys getting 8 carries a piece each game. Plus, not having a guy like that makes our offense more unpredictable. Far too many times when we had sproles did our offense become predictable. Team knew it was either a screen or a pass.

Hang on now. Hear me out.

Look at our secondary:
CB: Lewis, Browner, Dixon, Robinson, UFO, Frederick
S: Byrd, Vaccaro, Bush, Sunseri, Ball, Warren, Kenny Phillips...

We have talent. Enough to give the pass rush more time.

I'll be you our d line is top 12 in sacks next year!

There's a reason he got a contract like that, he's fat and out of shape. Id rather go get Red Bryant, that dude is a monster against the run.

CJ Spiller has missed 9 games in his career, 6 of them last season, just saying.

Re: Saints in the mix for CJ Spiller

^As I said before, he played for the Buffalo Bills. He was never given the opportunity to really succeed with a offense that punted a lot. When a player does not get enough playing time, the chances of injury are a higher. He won't be the bellcow on our team but he has a chance on every possession to do something if the oline is as improved as we hope.

I don't know why people are saying injury prone, he isn't. he played 14 games, 15 games, 2 full seasons and missed 6 games last year. that's not injury prone

**** he's been healthier than pt and ingram

Also, he won't be playing on grass in 13 games a year. He would only play in 7 or less.

Re: Saints in the mix for CJ Spiller

Dude was a beast averaged over 6.0 yds a carry in 2012... Only missed 6 games for broken collarbone. Things like that heal. He's a sleeper in my opinion.

He broke it on a 50+ yard run that's gotta count for something right?

I have to admit that stat shocks me.
I thought he had missed far more games than that

With him splitting with Khiry and Mark I think he could have huge success here. He has game breaking speed. Would love this move, lets hope

That's because he is always on injury report. Plays games but something is bothering him (ankle sprain, hammy...)

This is true, but not sure that's not true of most RB's

At least he's tough and plays hurt

I can't get over my C.J. Spiller fantasy football bias here. I hate him so much. So many injuries and so much unfilled potential. If we do sign him, I really hope it isn't for much and I will... root for him. But I will never own him again!

Jarius Byrd following Spiller...

Re: Saints in the mix for CJ Spiller

So's Ingram, um pretty sure we are getting Spiller!

spkb25 03-13-2015 08:50 AM

Re: Saints in the mix for CJ Spiller

spiller gained 283 in 210, 561 in 2011, 1244 in 2012, 933 in 2013 and 300 last year when he was hurt.

in 2010 and 2011 Fred Jackson was the main runner.

So outside of being hurt last year Spiller is 1 year removed from close to back to back 1000 yards seasons. He is young, not beat up, and I think would do wonders for us. He is a bigger version of Sproles. He caught roughly 35- 40 balls a year with the Bills absent last year, so I could see him catching 60 passes for us, possibly.

Anyway, I am excited about this move.

I don't see that Spiller missed much time other than last year with a broken collarbone.

Do you mean that he left games early?

Yea, he's always had nagging little injuries.

I'm beginning to think Twitter/Instagram or whatever these guys are using is the key to knowing what's going on with free agency,.

Put it to you this way, no Saints following Tramon Williams :)
