I think they will be fine as long as we produce a pass rush. Hopefully we can get faster linebackers also. Im still at a loss why we was so bad on D last year.

That's easy!

Improved pressure from the D-Line, better tackling from the linebackers, and most importantly better play from the corners... If we get solid play from the cornerback position, Byrd will not have to worry about holding P-Rob's or White's hand anymore because they couldn't cover worth a damn...

I agree with both of you. My underlying question is whether Rob Ryan is dropping the ball on developing some of these players or developing a solid identity for our D

Same things that always help safeties shine... Better pass rush and coverage. Oh, and also officially making Vacarro the nickel CB and using a left/right safety setup with Byrd and Warren would be a good idea.

Evidently the issue is far deeper the Ryan...I can't think of one defensive player that we have truly developed over the past decade.

I think that's just kind of the way it is when a team has an offense-minded head coach calling all the shots. Could be worse... The Jets had a defense-minded coach in Rex Ryan and they couldn't develop an offensive player to save their lives. It's hard to find that balance.

I am still low on Vaccarro. He does have talent, I admit and I love the attitude ha plays with. I hope he proves me wrong. The secondary does look loaded though. Payton's not playing anymore though, he'll have to earn a starting spot. Hopefully the front 7 can get pressure and stop the run. Then the secondary can really shine.

Re: Kenny Vaccaro & Jarius Byrd

Ryan is what he is nothing more and do not expect it change.

Byrd needs a little more talent in the secondary to truly start doing his thing. much better than last year so things are looking up.

Hell we have so many SS on the roster we have them playing FS also. One of them has to workout if not start trimming. picks or not

Kenny is an issue that hinders Byrd. THAT needs to improve ASAP. That or get what you can for the guy and bring in some one that helps maximize that contract you are paying Byrd.

I have Kenny on a short leash myself.

Kenny needs to step up or step out of the picture all together.

Saints also need to still add another 1 or 2 quality CB

We need to build in order to get a solid return on the 20 million dollar Byrd man.

If healthy Kenny Phillips will start at SS. I like Sunseri as Phillips back-up and Warren as Byrds back-up. Vaccaro has to show he can play better than last season or trade him.
